However, on trying to refit the first one, a rear one I have hit a problem. It appears that spring in the top picture is touching the chassis and will not allow the bottom of the shock to line up with the locating holes. (bottom photo}
Am I doing anything silly here? Its the longest of the shocks so I am right in thinking this is a rear one? They are the correct way up? I don't think the new springs are any wider/longer than the old ones?
Ideas chaps?
P.S Don't comment on the state of the ABS wire...it was a temporary fix for the MOT that I haven't got round to sorting.

The helper springs and main springs all fitted by Nitron so I assumed they'd all fit. They knew what car it was for. Is there a 'proper' end to have the helpers on?

Is the wishbone jacked up into somewhere near its normal position ? Might line up then
I have jacked up the wishbones to line up with the length of the the shocks so I can put the bolts in. To put it to its 'normal' position would mean compressing the springs?

Mine too were supplied from Nitron assembled and are fine. Mine are the Race46 trackday pro package though. Looks to me like I have way more damper body above the lock ring. The adjuster was taken up to the point where the spring just say bound so no loading on mine in that pic.
Sorry what I mean is there was no loading on the damper unit before fitting, it actually has some weight on in pic as there is an axle stand under the upright. (I think if I remember right)

If it helps when I put it on the ground again with engine etc all back in I had 133-135mm rear ride height with them set like so.

Are these the "fixed" droop Nitron's Paul? If they now physically don't fit, I think I'll live with my glaring lack of droop.

They are the elongated 'fixed' Nitrons Yes. I just thought it might be me though.

Just put the helper below the main spring. It'll be fine

Actually just looked again at your pic Paul, you sure you got them the right way round, that body length looks very short for a rear damper, ref. my pic above.

Rear helper springs look wider than the front, if I had to guess i'd say they are springs for the 46mm damper.

Don't see what difference that will make - the springs are the same diameter and be in the same place won't they?

They're not the same diameter though mate, the helpers are wider hence why they are catching. Unfortunate but no biggy if you turn them round. Just give it a try, if it's no good then you have an issue but I'm sure it'll be fine.
