Is that in the rules about testing the engine on track but not in an F1 shell?
Posted 03 December 2013 - 01:23 PM
yes, iirc Renault have one of their single seater with theirs in

Really? I thought there were restrictions about it. Maybe interpretation of the rules. Not sure Renault have a fully working engine yet do they?

I'm sure Renault were one of the first to show a video earlier this year?

Testing development engines testing is fine. It's just testing the engine in a recent F1 chassis out of season that is the problem.

Mmmmm, I thought there were some restrictions about the testing. Mostly in lab or on approved test days.

They did, but I'm not sure what engine that was

It a loophole in the regs. As long as the engine isn't in a F1 chassis, there's nothing to prevent them testing it ahead of the January tests and before the engine number limits come in. You can bet all of the others are either doing it, or currently frantically trying to fit one in any mid/rear engined car they can find.

Usually an Ultima as they are cheap and p*ss easy to mod.

Do you think it will try to escape through the mesh like the current engine is?
