Really enjoyed all the refurbing to be honest it was very satisfying, taking a rusty part that looked so bad and turning it into a better than new part.

I think some of my demands almost killed Duncan though lol. As most of the credit still goes to him, I'm just glad I had a hand in it now, makes it more special.

Great build thread sir. What product's and processes did you use to refurb all your parts?

Well there's a story, from a cost point of view I have to admit with all the stuff I bought to do it, it would have been cheaper to just hand it all over to a powder coating company.

However I wouldn't have had the satifaction.

I used all sorts, paint stripper, water based rust remover (which I'm amazed at, chuck parts in bucket and leave for a while, hey presto clean fresh metal with no acid eating good metal), gel based rust remover, corrosion block I found worked quite well for places on the car with rust, followed up with wire brush, KrudKutter for etching galvanized stuff, acid etch paint, zinc paint, high temp paint, smooth hammerite, wire brushes and lot's of time and elbow grease.

Thanks, I don't think it's finished yet though, I have no LSD yet, we were actually really interested after all the debate on them to see how it would be without one, but most likely it will get one and possibly some RL traction control. Also it now needs a setup that will make good use of that power which I'm thinking might be a little less camber than I had before, it will be a compromise as always and may take some testing.

FINALLY! You kept us all waiting but jeezus that's an intensive project. I have no doubt it will be well worth the hours and dedication you have all put into it.

Thanks for the kind words Steve and nice read. For sure there are a shed load of little jobs completed and going to get a few dvds of pictures over to plough through Yep the cleaning and refurbing process with just about every nut and bolt was a mission and lucky I have a wife lol Well unlike Steve I did take it near the 7k limit more for data logging after putting setting on the ecu and even with baby boost of 1bar it is bloody quick and had full traction in 3rd upwards logging in 4th alone meant I needed a private road. Massive thanks to Todd and the gang at revo the linear throttle configuration and st2+ work makes it very easy to use in the vx and does exactly what I requested and some! Revs so quick and smooth......well until wot them its a bit special Steve opted for open filter at the time and darth vader has been to the gym and sure taking something to enhance his performance lol. Exhaust sounds really good! Power will be about 375 and torque 360 on conservative roller which we will confirm along with final weight but hope for near same vxt weight Just up with usual 5am start with youngest but will keep an eye on the thread and add to it as time allows DG

Nice project! It's another one of those project threads that makes me want to pull off my subframe and wishbones to get everything treated. Have you any photos of the engine with the clam in place? Does it fit without modification to clam, engine cover or undertrays?

I never took any george but Steve can. Zero mods to subframe or clam other than coolant pipe for cc as it was to close to turbo for my liking

A little late now but just to fill in a gap in your original purchase story. Nidd Vale use (they still might) to run a huge wholesale department, a chap called Simon use to bulk buy at closed (restricted access) GM/NQ auctions then offer the stock to everyone & his dog in the trade. The wholesale section was at a separate site to the dealership, which is probably why they had no knowledge of the car when you rang.
