Thanks for the info - will drop him a note. Interesting budget creep! I'm thinking of starting my own SC build, anything you would advise with heindsight? I'm set on Dutch software but the spec of the rest of the build is completely in the air. I've already got an alloy rad and a VSE which I hope could keep costs a little lower. If I'm dragging your thread off topic feel free to drop me a PM!

Bolted on the final few bits today and finally, after weeks of work and plenty of time and money, I got to take it for a drive. Was it worth it?... YES Why didn't it come from the factory like this?. The extra power is very manageable and linear but it now goes like it looks. I can't quite believe it's all going to stay in one piece as it's such a jump in power for the standard engine. It just keeps pulling right up to the limiter. A couple of issues... 1-noise. It sounds great to me but it's going to cause issues on track. I'll have to enclose the air filter at some point. 2. Oil vapour... I went for the quick option and just vented the cam breather behind the fuel filler and it stinks. I'll extend the pipe and chuck it further out the way somewhere but still undecided on whether to fit a catch tank. Thanks to all the guides and info on this site that has got me this far!

Happy to drag it off topic!

I've been trying to figure out how the costs got so high and decide to look in more detail at my spreadsheet. I now realise that I'd double counted on parts - DOH!. Final cost is actually £3.2k but that has included the exhaust, alloy main rad and some bits I didn't need. Without these you could come in closer to £2.5k. I'll add a full breakdown if anyone is interested but it's roughly:-

£760 - Dutch Software

£410 - SC Ancillaries (vxr injectors, pulley, belt, inlet pipe, filter etc.)

£635 - Charger, Inlet, TB etc. from the states - including import duty and dual pass mod

£980 - Charge cooler system including pro-alloy main rad, cc rad, pump etc.

£105 - Extras (coolant, alternator etc.)

£100 - Bits I didn't use (fuel pump, spare alternator, budget pre-rad)

£225 - Exhaust

In hindsight... it's quite a bit of work and takes a lot of time reading various threads on here to get all the info you need. I'll reserve judgement on whether it's a great idea until I've lived with it for a while but I'm happy at the moment! I like the fact that I've done it myself as I know that if it breaks, then I can fix it.

Let me know if you want the e-mail address of the guy I got my charger from in the states. He was really helpful and it was delivered pretty quickly - just ask him to package it better than he did mine as the inlet manifold was damaged on mine during transit and needed welding up (thanks Dave H!)

Nice, I don't think £2.5k is too bad inclusive of the Dutch software personally. I'd love to see your full breakdown, if only to check I'm not overlooking something!!

Find attached to this post a pdf with the detailed parts I ordered, including costs and weblinks.   I found a few other lists already on the site and collated these together to create my list. Hopefully this will be useful for anyone else (ie. Tusk) that's thinking of converting their car to SC. It's fairly complete but there's probably a few bits I had laying around the garage that aren't in the list.

Legend - thanks for this. I owe you a beer! I've got a similar list I collated from two I found on here, will add yours to the mixing pot :)

So I'm very happy with the conversion but have a few questions for final setup/checks..

Fuel pump/AFR's

I'm on a standard fuel pump but running the blue VXR/LEH injectors. My assumption is that if the fuel pump is struggling to maintain the flow at high rpm on full load and the pressure in the fuel rail drops, then this will be compensated for by the dutch closed loop fuel learn by increasing the injector duty cycle to maintain the correct AFR. So assuming that the duty cycle is below 100% AFTER a fuel learn then I shouldn't be running lean (This isn't an option for the courtenay map due to the LET injectors being at 100% duty cycle anyway - hence the need for upgraded fuel pumps in those cars).

Have I understood this correctly? Is there a way that I can check actual AFR in the logging section (I couldn't see the option). I've got an uprated pump if needed, just deciding whether I need it or not...

Rev Limit

It's set at 7000rpm but I'd rather be safe and lose some of the rev range if neccesary. I'm tempted to drop it to 6500-6800rpm range. AmI being overly cautious?

Thanks

There is also a fuel regulator in the fuel rail

Are you on oem fuel pump I think a oem pump struggles to keep up and aventually dies on SC

I'm using a OEM fuel pump and it's fine, I actually think the need to replace the fuel pump is actually a quirk with CS being unable to deconvolute max'ed injectors from a max'ed pump.

I brought my rev limit down to 6800 however I was using a smaller pulley.

thumbsup Sound like we've come to the same conclusion.

Any tips on what I should look at on the logs to check it's not lean at the top end?

Glad its been worth it. Makes it into a proper wee car...

If you want to quieten the induction noise, look at getting an enclosed airbox like a Viper one that Techie uses or a BMC CDA one like I have. Makes the noise much easier to live with and I managed to pick mine up second hand for £30. A quick clean and its mint again :)

Have you got a wideband ??

Which wideband is the most reliable one to go for, heard mixed reviews of em? Also, I take it they need to get a threaded mount welded into the exhaust, upstream of the CAT?

You can put it on the dyno.

They will stick a wideback in the exhaust during the session.

Do a fuel learn. If the supplied map is running rich this will obviously put more demand on the injectors. Just to confirm the blue injectors are currently above 90% duty cycle?

Do you have to run a wideband to do a fuel learn?

Not for stage 2. Just let the engine cool between runs at high rpm.
