Looks fantastic and very nice to  drive.

What spring rates do you have front and rear?

Nice work as always Captain. Rubber trees the world over must fear your name :D   I may have asked you this already but where did you get your dinky rear view mirror?

Thanks Neil. The tyres seem to have taken the abuse well. Adding camber to the rear has helped protect the outer tyre edge. The mirror was in the car when I got it. Halfords sounds about right. It's just a suction cup on the back.

Those mirrors are from Halfords I think. My old one certainly was.   That was one of the first trackdays where the back end hadn't been out at some point throughout the day. I think that was a mixture of the 888s being at the right pressure and me still not pushing it to the full after my tyre incident!

  What pressures were you running?

Thanks - it is good to drive. Suspension is nitron Street series v1 (not current range). I believe the rates are 350f/450r and standard ARB. I may go for a 1" ARB later this year and see how that helps but I'm worried it'll upset the overall balance.

Used to have about 30 psi hot on the RSRS and found that didn't work at all on 888s. Settled on 24/26 hot and seemed to work well. I may see if 23/25 hot is better or worse at the next day. If I remember ill bring my laser temperature gauge along!

Hi Captain,

have you noticed what your driver side tire is like,

i took my wheels of today to look at my supersoft shocks which were actually set on 20 from soft on rear  and 18 from soft on front needless to say there is somthing wrong with the shocks,

just wanted to no the condition of your drivers side front tire as mine has warn a lot similar to the front outer edge of the passenger side,

the reason why i ask is to see if this has something to do with my shocks or not

cheers chill

ps going to see if the arguing has stopped on my thread

It hasn't, sorry chris, i'll stop.

I know Mike had issue with his Gaz suspension losing clicks too.

Just had a read of your thread.. :)

The edge of my rsr's always take a beating on track. Although the last set of fronts were worn as if I'd been going round and round in right handed circles (outer edge on lhs, inner edge on rhs) - I need a stiffer ARB.

Note sure what you're looking at on yours. A pic of my front left tyre if it helps - nice blue colour where the oils are released from the rubber:

Drivers side front looks similar but with more wear on the inside edge than outside...

Update: - fitted an Elise Parts 1" ARB at the weekend and managed to get out for a quick (20 mins) drive this evening so I thought I'd post some observations.

  • Elise parts were brilliant with the group buy - very helpful on the phone, fast delivery, quality product - Massive thanks to them and Lee for organising!
  • On to the bar itself. It's much, MUCH more substantial than the standard bar, a lot less rusty and a rather fetching shade of bright red
  • Fitting was fairly straight forward, as long as you expect to find rusty bolts and stupid design like.. (1) the cap head bolts with 10mm clearance to the wishbone when a hex bolt would make it soo much easier to access and (2) riveted brackets that need to be removed and refitted to the crash box before the old bar can come out...

Pics of fitting.

On to the driving - I think it will make for a quicker lap time but wouldn't change to it if I had a road only VX. Here's why..

It seems to improve stability at high speed and feels very reactive to quick direction changes - this should help increase turn-in and stability in high speed corners (turn 1 at Snetterton, turns 1 & 3 at Angelsey) but the trade off is that on the throttle coming out of slow speed corners (roundabouts) it felt more willing to push into understeer. On track I hope it will mean greater entry speed into and through the high speed corners but I'll need to be more gentle on the throttle at corner exit. Unless I adapt my driving style, it could mean slower overall lap times...

Having said that, a 20 minute drive on the road isn't a great test - I need another track day :)

I think most use the stiffest setting. And I'm sure Scuffers saying they would make an even stiffer bar if they could fit one :/

Did you notice much difference moving to the 1" ARB on track?

I need to change the stiffness setting on mine. Do I need to compress the suspension as you've done before tightening everything up?

I fitted everything and then had the geo done all at the same time. So I don't know what made which difference :(

Thanks. It'll be interesting changing 1 part at a time but I suspect your approach of jumping straight to a good setup is probably a better approach.

No - the bar is greased inside the bushes so should rotate without issue. The only reason my suspension is compressed was to improve access to the stupid cap head bolts holding the bracket in place.

I took my shocks of A to get to the stupid position hex heads and also didn't tighten the brackets until it was all fastened to the toe links

maybe you need to stiffen the back up a little to compensate for the stiffer front end Possible stronger springs

I'm running Nitron Streets V1 too. I find that running the front very soft, but the back considerably firmer gives good stability, low roll and good turn-in. Most of the mass is at the back, with a fairly high roll centre, so the front should really only come into play once the rear rolls sufficiently to unload the inside rear. That takes a fair amount of doing....

I did, big difference, first few laps of and kept turning into the apex early.

As you found out, bugger all difference on everyday driving, which was great :)

Wish I'd one the ARB first and not gone so stiff with the shocks.

Like all suspension changes on these cars, everyone will have a slightly different (or substantially in some cases) set up, meaning you can only really glean a feel for the difference this will make.

Running Exige suspension, the 1" ARB made a significant difference on the road, but then my springs are a good bit lower rate than even the Nitron streets, so to be expected.

You probably need to alter your geo, and perhaps tweak the damping setting and / or tyre pressures to compensate? I personally altered the front / rear tyres pressure difference slightly (4 psi difference - I can notice the difference as I use relatively soft walled road tyres), and this has helped compensate slighty, although I've not really noticed any real negative effects overall..
