From the boot! Some idiot had left a bottle of engine oil in the boot and the lid had come loose and dumped a litre of oil :( At least it was an easy fix!

Ha ha, I once accidentally left a 2 litre bottle of fizzy pop in the boot - the smell and sticky residue that left taught me a lesson too !
:) Nobody likes sticky residue in the back of the car!

Brake coolers and new pads went on today. Looking forward to seeing how the brakes cope on the next outing.

Only downside of the coolers that I could see is that they push the disc over so the new pads are pushed onto the disc until they wear down a bit.

When the wheels are on check the hose on full lock as they can rub on the tyres

Thanks Kieran. I gave it a check yesterday and it all looked good on full lock. With some use I expect it to settle so I'll keep checking for a couple of weeks to see what it's doing.

A short anecdote...

When the Saab 9-3 convertible came out back in 2004 (?) I borrowed one (Aero, automatic) from the local dealer over night. I figured a trip to the (not) local motorbike dealer to buy a can of engine oil would be appropriate. The next day I took the car to work and, of course, took a colleauge out for an "inspired" spin. When we came back the cap had come off the can and some 5litres was spilled in the trunk. Luckily I worked where there was a need for cleaning tanks so I had powerfull equipment at hand but it took me the better part of an afternoon to get rid of most of the oil. Let's just say there will be no rust in the boot of that car for a long time...

I had spilt oil in the boot of my VX when I bought it.... it took many washes in detergent to get it out of the boot carpet. I nearly gave up and got another carpet

The boot still needs sorting but for now I've put a brand new blue soft top on for the summer.

I'm liking the blue on blue :)

Thanks. I'm happy with it now. It works equally well on road and track. There's nothing else I think it needs short of some fresh paint but if it was immaculate I wouldn't want to use it as much... I just plan to feed it petrol, tyres and brake pads and drive it!

I know - I set it to upload this morning on the way out the door but noticed a massive error so dropped it. Just re-uploading :)

I had to edit it on my tablet whilst also trying to use race render and race chrono so the chance of an error was big!

I went to Brands yesterday for a track evening but the time on track was cut to just 2.5 hours including sighting laps, which in hindsight isn't enough (it was advertised as 3 hours when I booked). Plus I invited a friend along for some driving time and passenger laps so I only ended up getting 1 session where I was on my own.

Anyway, this footage is from the start of this session after it stopped drizzling and includes James_LY in his NA for a bit too:

Yep, free racerender so limited to 3 minute clips and then thrown into free windows movie maker to chop off the end credits. I'm using the qstarz Bluetooth GPS gadget. Very easy to use and setup but speed got confused by going sideways.

Some good times. 3 seconds better than mine. Wouldn't mind doing a warmer day than December though (my last 3 days there)

I was pleased to dip into the 54's and would like to think 53's are possible with some fresher/better tyres - the rear right has done 6+ days now and is well used - lots of oversteer round the lap :)

Thanks James. Good to see it from another angle. It was good to come out in your NA - great fun but I could sense the frustration when the elige's don't move over/let off. Despite the SC not feeling much quicker from in the car, the difference it makes is pretty clear in your video :) Ps. If you haven't already done it, spot metering on the gopro will ensure you see more outside the car than in.

Nice vids. That track is so 3D (ie dips + rises) it must add another dimension to the drive, especially that blind 90 degree bend after the main straight - I'm not sure I could commit to flying over that on the hope that nobody was spun out 100 meters further down it!
