Flat battery this morning on A19 after turned engine off on traffic jam. RAC came out and fitted new battery but that triggered the alarm. The fob has been knackered for months and won't arm/disarm the alarm. Any ideas anyone? Alarm going off constantly and I'm 50 miles from home.

Remove nearside headlight. Disconnect wiring loom from the siren, below the headlight. Will probably still have the siren going until it's backup battery dies though.

Disconnecting the siren won't stop the hazards, you also need to remove the dash and disconnect the wires from the alarm unit on the left hand side of the dash - wires face the windscreen.

Thanks guys. I'm not in a position to start taking the dash off as RAC had to come out and sell me a replacement battery at the roadside and at work in Sunderland. Luckily he knew of a nearby auto electrical specialist so I've just dropped it off. Asked them to try and sort the crappy wiring for the lights as well - reverse light has never worked and I've gone through 3 n/s headlamp bulbs in 6 months!

try wiggling the door switches, I had a duff door switch which caused similar disarming issues.
