Doing something a bit different on Sunday. I got offered the chance by MSVR to take part in a race at Snetterton on Sunday with cars from a selection of their other series. It will be 20 minutes qualifying then two 20 minute races, I think with a reverse grid on the second race. There are 39 cars taking part including M3s E36 and E46, M5, V6 Exige, 211, Elises, Ginetta G40s, Caterhams, Mini Coopers and some classic stuff including an XK120.
The regs are quite lax so all the ballast is out (85kg), the wing is back on and well above the roof line and the st2 cams are going back in. Should be interesting!!

How did the racing go over the weekend ?
Good. No problems with the car. There were a lot of powerful cars there with power/weight ratios much higher than the VX. M3s, Ginetta G40s, G50, M5, Exige V6 Cup, Caterhams/lookalikes some with 400 per ton, bike engined cars, quite a few on slicks. I looked at the entry list beforehand and thought if I could get top 20 that would be good. In the end I qualified 18th out of 39. First race finished 19th and second race 17th (even lapped an Elise and a G40 in the second race). Satisfied with that.
Next outing is Brands on the 16th August supporting Elise Trophy and Lotus Cup the day before the Lotus Festival. Not much to do on the car before then.. Change a CV boot, oil change, geo, take the wing off and a spanner check.

In car footage from the Brands GP Team/Tackday Trophy allcomers race with a 44 car grid. We qualified 25th which was terrible. Changed the tyres and I started the race on new ZZR's. Quite an eventful start where i get away quite well but go into 4th from 1st twice and then get punted sideways by a Clio but manage to get it back only to drop to 30th. Manage to get us up to 18th by the driver change where Jez takes over and gets us to 15th after a duel with a faster in a straight line flaming MR2 turbo who is always close to us.
There is also a bit of in car footage from an M3 at the Bedford weekend trackday which belongs to the person who made the video. He owns the lowest powered, most expensive E36 M3 race car known to man, 234bhp.

As usual it was a no rules race seemingly Lots of deliberate contact, lots of multiple blocking manouevres on the approach to corners (watch me trying to get past the black mini and the green/black Integra!!) and as usual nothing done about it. We're in class B (151 to 175bhp/ton).

Being able to hang the car round the outside on the first couple of laps certainly helped.
