She’s been laid up for 3 weeks in the garage (dry). 400 mile round trip yesterday. Purred like a kitten (as usual) till last 60 miles. Stationary, at idle & 1000 rpm or less, MAJOR judders before stalling. In gear & moving (without foot on gas) minor kangarooing @ 1200 rmp or less (feels like all cylinders not firing)! Bit lost.... I’m suspecting fuel pump.

Oil changed less than 600 miles ago, new filters (air, oil & fuel) + gear box oil & breather mod,  spark-plugs out (cleaned with fine wet & dry but not replaced). Normally starts & runs like a dream.... Oh.... I did have VX cleaned with a POWERFUL jet washer (not very carefully) at one of those car wash places (against my better judgment)... So could it be water in oil via gear box breather mod (air box also modified) or wet plugs (unlikely but only new “free radical”)? As always, thanks in advance. Ben. Movie 1: That banging you can hear is every panel shaking at less than 1000 rmp: https://www.dropbox....MOV?n=133448001 Movie 2: In idle (stationary). She doesn’t stall this time, but you can hear her “caughing”: https://www.dropbox....MOV?n=133448001 Movie 3: Engine & exhaust spluttering. Engine normally ticks over at constant RPM without fluctuation & exhaust note normally continuous: https://www.dropbox....MOV?n=133448001

Forgot to state (for those who don't know me) it's an NA.

Could be damp in the coil pack, Have you got use of a scan gauge or OP com to check faults ?

Thanks Kieran. The more I read (& think about this) I'm inclined to agree it's a result of water ingress. I'll dry a diagnostic with Dash Command (OBD 2). But it's not very sophisticated. Then, plugs & coil pack out, hot air gun / hairdryer. Do all agree this best "first-point-of-call"? Ben.

Thanks. So you had to buy a whole new coli pack? I was hoping it's just a case if removal (as far as one can) & drying out with a hair dryer or hot air gun. Anyone had a result with such a method?

I got a second hand coil pack off eBay paid about 25 quid. Good to have a replacement just for diagnosis and elimination.

OK... so I took coil pack & spark plugs out (taking coil pack apart - as far as one can)... plugs were dirty, but there seemed little evidence of water ingress in either coil or plugs... I thoroughly cleaned all components & “dried” with a hairdryer... re-fitted... start-up vastly improved, no stalling on tick-over... However, tick-over RMP still fluctuating between 800-1000 RPM & not “smooth” as previous... this suggests to me that (1) that coil pack is the cause of issue (2) that “drying out” is possible, as stability of tick-over has improved... Does this mean that the issue will rectify itself in due course (as coil pack further dries, whilst laid up).... or must I resign myself to buying a new coil pack? If the latter can someone please link me / provide part  number. Cheers. Ben.

Highly likely you have a duff coil pack. Even drying it out may not fix the problem. Carparts4less were the best for me when mine went (even before I added their discount code!)

Fingers crossed hey! Worth a punt for 20 snots. Before I balls this up, all Z22SE coil packs are the same (bar maker) right? I've not paid for it yet. It's a Delfi 01635973*CWS* Please advise. Cheers. Ben :-)

How the sod is that legal? So they were £184.80 But EuroCarParts are having a sale over the bank holiday. So what they've done is added "was £223.20" and crossed it out. So it's now the super special price of £184.80!

Trying to dry with a hair dryer is too quick usually Ben, the vapour will just re-condense somewhere else inside the box, much longer time needed, on top of a radiator (with something to protect it from getting too hot) overnight is more reliable.

same goes for most boxes by the way, phones etc.

:)
