So about time for another pic heavy update. Work has rather got in the way recently, with a few nights away being especially inconvennient. Not to mention social life, which continues with a wedding this weekend, a holiday the week right after and a wedding reception on our return followed by another weekend away.

Anyway, some more use of the steam cleaner, tar remover and plenty of cloths and brushes I finally got the front bay clean enough for my OCD to calm down. It's not perfect, but close enough for me I reckon.

Posted Image

The specs are dirt/dust rather than ingrained marks so will give it a final clean/hoover before re-fitting stuff

Posted Image

Cleaned up the crash box completely, removing both the towing eye and the tigerseal/silkaflex that the rad brackets were mounted on

Posted Image

But more importantly, some more shiny bits arrived :D

EP 1 inch ARB

Posted Image

New hoses for the rad

Posted Image

Which is nearly new rather than brand spankers

Posted Image

Oh and some springs

Posted Image

For these (Qauntum single ways) to be teamed with the ARB and full bump steer kit (not pictured)

On Monday I was meant to be watching Naomi gliding (a birthday present from me to her months ago) but it was cancelled (for the second time) so rather than 'waste' my day (spending it with Naomi :o   ) I took a trip down to MBR and delivered some more parts.

Posted Image

Main thing was to get the Coupe panels down there, but also included all suspension bushes, ball joints etc and steering wheel, front wing vents, HCB and a few other parts.

Not exactly a test fit, but where it'll eventually end up at least

Posted Image

And then I got back to the subframe. It's really not in too bad condition, but I want to get as much crud off it before painting it with Por15. So out came the flat headed screw driver, wallpaper scrapers etc and some elbow grease.

Sooooooooooo boring. In fact it's soul destroyingly boring...

Posted Image

Have scraped the right hand side of this one - hopefully you can at least see the surface is a bit smoother

Posted Image

Scraped a bit more on left hand side. As said, not perfect but along the right lines

Posted Image

Removed one of the fans from the Chargecooler and drilled the rad surround (with only a tiny amount of help from Lee).

Posted Image

And back to the important (and shiny) stuff. Things came back from the powdercoaters...

Posted Image

And just for JG, a freshly powdercoated ABS bracket. May not be OEM silver, but a lot tidier and you'll scarcely notice it in the arch.

Posted Image

Right, think that's it for now. Will be back there tonight to finish scraping the subrframe and jetwashing it, which will then hopefully allow me to paint it tomorrow night. Then it's definitely time to start putting stuff back together again.

Thanks mate. So am I.

I'm confident it wont be done by the national (possibility I could rush it but for sake of £200 trackday that's only going to fcuk the paint I'm not that keen) so you'll have to wait.

As for ECU, I hear the development car has been running, but the man calibrating it all is rather busy working on some BTCC cars at the mo. Hopefully some more news on it all very soon.

It's not going to be at the national. I'm not rushing it for the sake of some £200 trackday. I may turn up in one of my other cars

Been a little while since an update, thanks in part to work but mostly a couple of weddings and a holiday to lisbon

Posted Image

She'll hate this but nevermind

Anyway, once I'd got over not riding a bike, paddleboarding, boat tours, eating copius amounts of meat and drinking wine in the sun every day I decided it was probably worth casting an eye over project once, well, once again.

Of course my enthusiasm was short lived thanks to that damn subframe, which I seemed to be foreever scraping and cleaning.

This was as good as my screwdriver, scraper and chisel could get it. Not perfect but a sound enough base for painting

Made a start on painting it as well.

We're using POR15 in a bid to combat any future rust and hoping it will stay well protected and not too susceptible to knocks and scratches from anything in the engine bay. Durability being the main aim here.

Posted Image

Nearly done. Took a long long time, and while I'm not 100% happy with the finish Matt assures me (and as usual I suspect he is right) that it will look a lot better once re-installed in the car

Posted Image

Posted Image

Looks incredibly orange-peely here under the harsh lights, but was still wet so suspect it'll settle a bit better than this.

Have also got the bushes and ball joints into the front wishbones, ready to be re-attached to the car this weekend (though for some reason cant  find any pics with the bushes and joints installed so you'll have to make do with naked but powdercoated wishbones instead)

Mmmmmmm shiny  :D

Hopefully have some more updates after the weekend, with front end built up now I have the clips I need for rad and chargecooler install etc.

I'm sure the owner of the black Exige will be delighted to see a freshly painted subframe and an open can of paint balanced on a narrow table a couple of feet from his/her car

PS looking good though!!!

So we didn't get too much done last week, what with sorting the workshop before people arrived, giving people the tour around the place, and of course socialising/chatting, then trying to sort keys out for MBR before leaeving I barely got my hands dirty.

However, big thanks to all who came along (and didn't just take the p*ss - Lee :poke:  ) and lent a hand.

Big thanks to Ambrose (NavVX?), Mark (Zoobeef), Tom (Fezzasus) and Jason (Jason!) who helped with the rad/chargecooler mounting, fezz heater and removing wrap from the clams and sills.

Repaid Mark by giving him enough drink that night to make him ill the next day, so all good. Either that or it was the BBQ prawn!

So anyway, rad and chargecooler mated together with new clips and stainless bolts etc

Posted Image

And mounted onto the car with new EP silicon hoses for rad

Posted Image

New Fezz heater going in since the one in the car was a Mk1 thumbsdown

Posted Image

Tom taking dashtop out to sort heater controls

Posted Image

Dash top gone

Posted Image

Ambrose halway through the wrap

Posted Image

Posted Image

And him and Jason managed to get it down to this

Posted Image

Have started to put wishbones back on front. What a Fcuker of a job that top front one is. Wanted to burn the car on Monday when I was last there. Ended up going home earlier than usual I was getting so frustrated with it, and have either been working or socialising the rest of the week so need to get back there and crack on with ASAP.

Hopefully next post will be about successful wishbone and damper fittign etc to the front of car.

G

After the national.

And no, third place on my three-outfit shortlist to visit within next couple of weeks then I need to decide.

I cut that mahoosive fan bracket off my rad. If you're going to get rid of the rad you may as well get air to as much of the core as possible.

Is it not standard to have twin fans on the rad/chargecooler combo?

Better cooling when on the move with the single fan (less restriction for the air). Better cooling when stationary with the twin fans.
