Few more Duncans that's for sure. Maybe 1.5

Realistically it will be at least two more Duncan's mechanically. Add another two for bodywork so four Duncan's in total would be nice

Be done in a batman

Joe, I'm about to depress you but I've known you for over 3 years now. In that time I've never see you drive a Vx that wasn't someone else's. :o

Yup but I have never seen you drive it in over three years - when we first met I don't think you even had a Vx at all? Anyway, damn sure it won't take 2 years!

Yup, funny how 'growing up' can be all encompassing when it comes to your time.

Ooops, sorry Graeme.

What are the core steps involved with the engine please, are you opening it up?

Don't worry about the misspelling, you get used to it after 33 years... Not too much happening engine wise Nev - some head work to make it flow better plus super tech valve springs, stage two cams and the lightened flywheel - that's about it really. Oh and standalone ecu if that counts as engine work...

What will can you safely rev the engine up to, about 7500 RPM? I guess with a SC the limiting factor is the valve springs, rods and gudgeon pins?

Supertechs will let it run past 8000 rpm

Do you guys know if the pistons and rods happy with that sort of limit?

As a 2.0 they should be, as a 2.2 it'll be pushing it.

maximum piston speed is around 25 m/s.

2.0 at 8000 rpm is 23 m/s

2.2 at 8000 rpm is 25.2 m/s

Note; the 25 m/s limit is based on conventional materials (steel liners ect).

Yup,

Should be relatively happy at 8,000rpm, but if it doesn't make any power above 7,500rpm say then we'll cap it there.

Will find out when it finally hits the dyno.

Running my 2.2 at around 7300 and still making power, Don't really want to put any more revs on it,

What valve springs do you have Chill - Dbilas or Supertech?

Christ, it looks like I've done no work at all on the car if you go by this thread...

My excuse is the last time I was going to update it, the forum died so I never got round to it. I don't have much time right now, since I have some work to do, but I guess I should at least try and make a start. So...

I'm not 100% on the order this all happened, so bear with me if it seems like there is some 'dodgy editing'

Completely stripped out the interior, removing doorcards, centre tunnel, sills, steering wheel etc

Posted Image

And set about cleaning it - with the dyson and even a bit of steam cleaner action. I know no-one will see under here once the (re-trimmed) dashtop is back in place, but my OCD won't let me put stuff back when it's filthy - even if its hidden. Matt B loves my OCD. Really. He does :o

Seems there's some quite sharp edges to those extrusions and alu panels in there though. Thankfully I merely sliced the glove and scratched the hand

Steam cleaner came out for some work on the rear chassis area too

Do all VX's have temperature stickers there by the way?

Yes, the temperature sticker is to ensure the tub reached the correct temperature to cure the adhesive.
