sh*t loads of money on a car? What she doesn't know won't hurt her...
Or it wouldn't have if I didn't have a wedding to pay for now!

Thought you'd already earmarked the payout for this project? The payout, whatever and whenever I get it, will be added as equity to current mortgage to facilitate a jump up the ladder (or an investment property), the wedding, like the car, will be paid for from saving/salary. Anyway, supposedly engine being dropped in at start of week. Then it's off to have an exhaust fabricated before I start running fuel lines etc...Your whiplash claim will pay for the wedding I'm sure. Car be done by the big day?

So after spending the day at Lotus a few weeks ago driving Exige V6s round the track, and then on Tuesday driving that Elise (yes it lives on) on the same I feels somewhat re-invigorated about the project - was a bit sick of it recently. I guess the time with those cars, and the holiday has helped.
Before I left I managed to get a little more done, including mounting the rear subframe, cleaning up the toe links and installing rear suspension wishbones and hubs etc.
So bearing in mind just how bad the previous subframe to chassis mounting faces were for corrosion, out came the Duralac
I asked Matt just how much I should use and where I should use it, to which his reply was simply lots and everywhere. So...
I may have just got his floor
With the chassis and plates all coated in the stuff it was time to mount the subframe up to the chassis. Unfortunately Matt had gone home for the night, so my second pair of hands was a trolley Jack. Took a little while to get it all in the correct position but managed it in the end.
Tightening it into place
And in place (self-supporting)

Next job was to fit rear wishbones etc.
I'd already installed the ball joints, but had to finish off installing the bushes into them. Likewise I'd already installed the wheel bearings into the hubs so once the bushes were done it was a case of just bolting it all up. Don't have any pictures of these yet but they're done now.
In the meantime I also cleaned up the toe-links, as although the uprated ones fitted to my car were new enough there was some surface corrosion on the nuts etc and some marks on the main shafts. In keeping with my OCD levels these were all cleaned up and re-fitted along with new dust boots.
Some of the corrosion and marks
'Old' and 'New' together
And that's it basically.
In theory the engine will be slotted onto its mounts tomorrow, and after that its ready to have its exhaust fabricated. Once that's done it's time to run the fuel lines etc, but until then there's not really much more I can do and I'm waiting on Matt sorting the engine etc out.
Also happening in the backrground, the rear clam and coupe panels are now with Ash from Relentless performance to work on a proper Coupe fitting solution, while Dave the Trimmer has seat shells and an intended design spec for them and the rest of the interior. Might be a little while til all that's needed though...

Where you having the Exhaust done G? Any ideas on spec / price? 1 more......what made you go for a fabrication rather than off the shelf Tullet or the likes? GJ
Couple of potential places at the moment, all contacts of Matt Bentleys. No current idea on price or spec as such, though I won't be running a cat and we're aiming to make the back box as large as physically possible to keep it quiet. System will be 2.5-inch rather than 3-inch. Think of my car as the testbed/development model as if it works then MBR will market the solution. My requirements are simply to be able to turn up at a trackday and not stress about breaking noise limit(s).
And that's why we're going fabrication rather than an off the shelf unit, as I've yet to hear of anyone with an off the shelf system that does the above.

Looks like you done good with the duralac. I bathed mine in it when I changed the subframe. It oozed out all over the place when I tightened it up!

Not too much to elaborate on here really. I just want to use a hinge point at the roll bar cover area, rather than just aerocatches or reverse hinges like Lee as I want to use the boot and the car on the road a bit more. Ideally I'd like it to feel/look a little more OEM - the proof will be in the pudding.
