I ask my engine what it wants all the time. It's like talking to a brick wall most of the time though..

It's cos you aren't talking to it in Japanese !

10s is rich but that would of been on base map After a fuel learn it will very close the 11.8 at WOT Which is not so rich ( default on Dutch software ) I've personally never moved away from 14.7 idle to 11.8 WoT with maybe a step in between towards lower pressure range Interesting reading and helps to explain what's going on, Any way back on to Graeme project

Who's "Bill"?

But for a Harrop that's a surprisingly lowish rpm where his makes the 398 max power.

(but from that number a similar build 2.0 should make 360-ish...)

yes, but power comes from the ignition timing

you could do three dyno runs , 11:1 , 12:1 , 13:1 and get the same result

but what will certainly change is the EGT dramatically increasing with lean ratios

then do the same but put in extra 3 to 4 degree ignition timing and you will see a more torque , more bhp

so staying rich is all about EGT and protecting components, call that safety if you want to.

since we can't control valve timing by the ecu on our engine, the next thing is try a vernier on the inlet cam and understand the zzp setup

tbh, Matt is giving you great , really usable torque

ps; max power AFR is somewhere around 12.6. (Google that),. But in our boosted hot engines you want safety and extra cooling, so 11.8 is an accepted safe mixture (rich best torque). You can lean it out a bit towards max power rpm, depending on how good your chargecooling is. But then how accurate is your wideband sensor... (Google that too.)

So leaning the mixture helps to get more ignition in ? If the engine/setup can take the leaner mixture & extra heat

I've seems bills ignition and he has got similar ignition settings to me maybe a a few degrees extra in certain places When I tried to get more ignition in I just got lots of knock so backed it off I'm not sure I want to lean my engine off as the power it's making is more than enough for my car and it's handling, Plus I need to learn to drive better and smoother with it

richer mixture generally gives you more headroom for extra ignition timing

and cooler temp plugs

So bills car is coping really well with the leaner mixture and more ignition

Just putting it out there, could we be noticing the top end lumps more because we're used to looking at CS graphs which don't cross over 5252rpm and is generally more stretched out?

On most of the boost levels we are dealing with here you shouldn't need to go under 12 in my experience if you keep the charge temp reasonable. However if charge temps change significantly that is what a correction table is for, if the temp goes high for some reason it goes richer.

We are only talking about 0.8-0.9 bar of boost, not like a stg 4-5 turbo at 1.3-1.6bar boost.

Brown went out the window a long time ago. It was on the consideration list though.

I'm having one of my usual colour wobbles... Problem with Sakhir is I think it looks mega in the sun, but when its raining or cloudy etc it loses some of it's lustre shall we say.

Plus there's another guy painting his Sakhir now. Will hopefully be able to use him as a guinea pig

Good idea, assuming his paintshop finishes it in the next 18 months. :P
