Great project Graham, good luck with it all.  Good to see my old numberplate going on something special!

I personally don't like the cut outs that some people have done to the rear of their cars. I would want to try and keep the car as whole as possible and try to get around the exiting of hot air a different way. Al

I'm kind of with you here Al, but have been playing with a few sketches at work today and may have something of a suitable (and OEM-alike) solution.

To be fair I've already discussed this with Matt and we're going to use some temperature stickers around the engine bay to monitor anyway.

What sort of thing are you thinking of going for G? You got any pics of your ideas? Al

I'm not keen on the rear clam cut outs.

I think the problem IMO is they are just cut outs. If they had a lip on them they may look a lot better.

I'm not so keen on the cutouts either but they go with the coupe mods more than they do on a standard car. If you do the cut outs i think something like these from D3ymo's project give it a better finish

Or this rubber edging makes it look better than just cut fiberglass

Looking forward to some progress pictures :)

Who was it that did a number of designs in photo shop? Some of these looked better than the normal cut outs.

The moulded versions look so much better. Little bit of Europa about it.

Agreed George. Though progress pictures would require me to actually start something. Been out of collar for one week now though so although not fully match fit hopefully I'll be able to post something meaningful over next few weeks.

A couple of them are ok, still not perfect in my eyes. Problem is if you cut away at the sides you make the car look narrower. Ideally you want something where you leave the sides and almost extend the diffuser upwards, but for what id want that probably means a custom exhaust with totally different outlets - like twin pipes from an Elise.

Possibly a more stealth option could be to cut out behind the number plate and mesh the whole area. Then put the (cut as small as possible) plate on spacers to allow the air to flow out and around the plate. The mesh could also be painted to match the body work. Not sure it this would work but was just a idea.

Look like some people have cut the numbers & letters out on there plates (black grill behind) to aid airflow. Doubt this is legal though.

Isn't the boot in the way though? (Already discounted that option for that very reason)

Didn't think of that. Easily modified though with the clam off but you would have to loose a little boot space. Ceramic coated exhaust manifold would help if spacing the diffuser.

Don't come to mine Matt - all I have is a garage full of bits (and logs and coal). Car is at Matt bentley's. Think I may have to arrange a 'working' beds meet there sometime if you wanna muck in?
