Got hit by an uninsured drunk driver last night, car goes I to the bodyshop Monday to have the damage assessed, but was wondering if anyone on here reckons it's fixable or a write of?

As you can imagine my pride and joy :(

Drives as straight as a dime still and no wheel wobble etc
drivers door won't open I think due to busted lock etc
Here's a few pics ...

Any things fixable ......if it went through insurance that would be a right off. I really feel for you. Looks in a bad state.

I agree.

Any insurance company would write that off.

Sorry to see this. I hope the cnut who caused it gets a hefty fine and ban or even jail time and that the insurers chase him for the cost of your car! I agree with it being a write off, maybe some hope of economically repairing it yourself if you are able to buy it back.

It was t your fault stick Out for a good replacement value payout £10000 Would be a start or get a cash settlement and keep the car I am sure it can be repaired with a jonny clam second hand door and copy sill panel Depends how good you are with the tools Turboluca also might be interested at the right price as he is constantly rebuilding vx

I feel your pain, but everything is repairable, just check my thread on repaired vx, it takes a lot of time to source the parts but I quite enjoyed rebuilding mine in a weird way, there are plenty of people on here who will buy the parts from it if you decide to buy it back from the insurance company and strip it, and there are also guys who would buy the whole car.

Chin up and put it down to the overcrowded roads full of non insured drivers who don't own fcuk all in life and couldn't give a stuff if you've worked 60hr weeks to keep your pride and joy in tip top condition and legal!!!!!!!!!

Tom do you mean the bit between hinge and black wiring? Never noticed it before but it looks to be bolted on...

Even if there isn't chassis damage that needs lots of repair work. Really sucky :( hope you can get it sorted for the best.

Tub damage where main door hinge is a complete write of unless it gets bogged and put back on the road :-(

Anyone estimate the rough cost of parts if I was to buy back and fix myself?

As above, looks like there is chassis damage that can't be repaired :(

Have you put a claim in?

The situation now with VX220s is pretty much any damage that involves a clam or any major bodywork its going to be a write off. So any of us that are in the situation have a choice of trying to keep it outside of the insurance or submit a claim and hope for the best.

They are still passing a lot of repairs but usually the owners are pushing very hard for the car not to be written off. If they give you 10 grand for it what do you replace it with? These days with so few cars for sale a like for like replacement cant be guaranteed.

If it was me in a non faulter unless you were looking to put an injury claim in I'd be giving the driver an option of giving you a couple of grand to fix it.

Get the bodyshop to drop me a line if they get a quote for the clam from me instead of Lotus it will vastly improve your chances of the car not getting written off.

Just listing the cosmetics stuff, it will be something like:

Front clam - £800

Door - £200

Bonnet - £40

Sill - £200

Wheel refurb - £50

Paint - £1000

It's all about whether there's any chassis damage, that's the first thing you need to check before you even consider buying it back from the insurance company.

the door hinge mounting has been ripped away from the chassis, so should be a Cat B write off if they do their job correctly  :(
