Last Sunday was off to sell silver hardtop. No other car available so fitted roof to car without trims and set off down M6.
About half hour into my journey I was in the middle lane behind 3 parallel cars on motorway, right hand lane cleared so proceeded to overtake.
Too much gas and a bobble over a cats eye sent rear of car towards central reservation, attempted to correct but in hindsight not aggressively enough - looking at videos on here.
All very tight in the outside lane and as I was still sliding towards barriers so had to brake, car spun so I was now going backwards down the motorway - BIIIIG trouble!
Struggled to scrub speed off and looked back through drivers window as I went across lanes on a trajectory off motorway at speed with no idea what was behind.
Braced and hoped for the best whilst completely blind....
Clipped the kerb at 45 degree entry angle, lifted over a ditch unawares into a tree! This section had no barriers. I consciously made an effort to keep curled up below the roll bar and the car begun to roll, mud is flying in and I am thinking nothing has hurt me yet. Roof had long popped off party-popper style!
I had eyes closed as mud and rolling continued, still aware that no glass or anything had hurt me. As car begun to slow and landed on wheels, I was amazed not to have a single injury.
Quickly exited the car and saw engine smoking so removed keys and got my touché to the hard shoulder. No other cars involved but a few pulled over to support.
So my car is gone, CAT C. Chaucer have been fantastic and paid out within one week.
Can't believe how lucky I am! I got engaged the week before and given fiancé her ring after resizing on the Saturday but could have been dead the next day.
I would have messed up a lot of my families lives as dad had helped me buy the car - so it is with heavy heart that my VX ownership ends. Only had one (NA then SC) for 9 months after hankering for one for years. Hubris messed it up but will be back once insurance and family circumstances allow. Still hoping to attend national and will be selling off my accumulated spares.
The tub is superb and I'm so lucky to hit the tree via rear crumple zone!
