I haven't read this thread but just came across it searching for sometrhing else seeing as I've just installed a rear view camera. This is because when my folding GoCycle is on the back either in or out of the carry ba (big), I have limited rear vision, and as I'm travelling to Europe with it on the back I really needed more vision to the rear than the side mirrors give me. Last time I was on the autobahn at about 120/30 mph cars were passing me like I was standing still.

I've never had a rear view mirror in mine...14 years and counting, never felt it an issue, but I do ride motorbikes if that's relevant

I've got multivex mirrors which helps, and also I'm an advanced driver and use all my mirrors a lot, so I particularly notice the absence of one of them.  Most motorcyclists are (have to be) much more aware than the average car driver.
