So after fitting new gearbox mounts and swapping the cam cover for a newly powder coated on then and a quick detail thought it would be nice to take a nice drive out with the Mrs and ended up at mates. Upon leaving massive rattle from engine it has a sticky lifter but was much noisier. Plus the oil light came on. So took the cam cover off for inspection... Nothing obvious. Put it back together and decided to chance the short journey home. Unfortunately didn't make it and seized the engine. Won't turn over now mate recused me and towed me home. Looks like an engine change is now required. So looking for help from anyone that wants to lend a hand as need to get up and running for Croft on the 4th April. I need a new clutch and cover and new slave and hoping my flywheel is OK I have a B207 to go in looks like sooner rather than later. Gutted would suit my mood right now.

did you run it without oil? i cant imagine you would of done tho..

did the cam cover get sandblasted before powder coating ?

 

if so throw it away  thumbsup

:yeahthat: my mate destroyed his evo 10 engine this way a few weeks back :(

Mmm thinking that may of been the culprit. Lesson learned the hard way.

I made Techie throw his newly powder coated cam cover away a few years ago, he was not best pleased when I refused to fit it  :sleep:

grateful should suit your mood right now, that your brand new engine never had the chance to have a powder coated cam cover fitted  :ffs:

 

get a plastic cam cover  thumbsup

Sean had a load of trouble on his old NA after having the cam cover powder coated the sh*t kept getting in the oil pump 😢

why would powder coating cause the engine to fail? bits breaking up from the underneath and falling into the engine?

thats bad news,  whats the problem with a sand blasted cover?  i assume it would be clean before coating and fitting?

if you remove the inner steel plate you will usually find a handful of grit after sandblasting, this kills the engine pretty quickly  :mellow:

 

I refuse to fit powder coated cam covers for that very reason, seen it happen before  thumbsdown

I thought I'd throughly washed it out after it was powder coated as that sand gets everywhere. Seems like I didn't. Vocky I fitted to old engine just in case so looks like I'll be hand sanding another cover for new engine.

open the cam cover up (drill or grind off the rivets) and have a look inside  thumbsup

Instead of getting then to sand blast it , get them sand it by hand and then powder coat it That's what my powder coated does

Mine was sand blasted but use a gallon of petrol to clean it Made some special brandy with it after it :-)

was just thinking same shirly a really good clean with petrol would of been good enough or is there hidden bits under metal tray?

Are you putting the harrop on and Dutch software at the same time as engine change?? You are a long way but if your desperate I can help Ps where is " your butt"
