This is why I love the vx/ forum is people like Tom keeping the vx going. Vauxhall prices for lights are mental so hopefully this will keep a few cars from being wrote off.

Tom will these lenses get the spider web cracks that most vx lights get?

The cracking is typically down to re sealing the lenses using polyurathane such as tiger seal, if you use a butyl tape as used originally then there isn't a problem

What paint are you using for the black surround?  The weakness with many repairs is not the adhesive but the fact that the adhesive has to bond to paint rather than direct to the lens itself and so strength of bond is dependent on the strength of the bond of the paint to the lens.

It's a balance, if you use an etching paint you will cause the plastic to crack, if you don't then you reduce adhesion

Looks like I'll need a pair of these sooner than I thought, my offside lens seems to have gone funky almost overnight.

The original design doesn't help because the headlight is held in with the lens edge taking pressure against the bodywork.  There was some sort of sponge padding there on the cars when new but how many have still got that, and to what degree it took pressure of the lens edge is uncertain.  This means (depending on fit) that the lens is being pushed off the headlight to a greater or lesser degree depending on the vibration of the car.

I need some new lenses but I was wondering if these will be available in singles?

Thanks for your prompt reply to my PM BTW, I know you've got a lot going on. thumbsup

Fitted a strip of 1mm self adhesive foam when I reseated my lights. Just ran out so I am trying to find where I bought it to do the same to the new light lenses. Had to buy a 2m x 1m sheet last time to get 1mm thick. 3mm thick is easy to get, but not thinner stuff. If anyone has a link to some thin self adhesive go am that will be great.

While with a big enough number the number of LHS and RHS separates would even out, I would prefer not to as half the lenses doesn't mean half the cost, packaging and shipping costs will stay the same.

That's not a firm no, just a reluctant maybe.

Steve, if your lights are vibrating it's probably a damaged mounting point for the projector, the lights will always have to be hard mounted into the clam as there's a large metal bracket at the back to ensure it's a hard mounting point.

I saw the edging on a diy job once to cure rattling.

Looked gash.
