Im not sure if this has been covered on here...a quick search hasnt brought anything up...but please point me in the right direction if it has...

Lots of people I know seem to have been involved in car/bike accidents recently, which has encouraged me to start thinking about an in car recording device...

I know a guy at work who worships his RoadHawk HD, but i was wondering if there were any others out there which are just as good and better...

What do you have?

Zoobeef has a nice thread about his one which looks good. I'm sure cocopops has a road hawk or something similar.

I've had a Blackvue hard wired in for about two years and it has performed faultlessly and gives great results. I did a bit of a review in this thread if you wanted a look. I think dash cams are a great idea that a lot more people should have. They can simply be fit and forget purely for added peace of mind but also used for fun stuff like track day footage, convoys at meets and capturing unusual things when out on the road like the Spitfire on a lorry Zoobeef posted and these couple of incidents from me - http://www.vx220.org...v-vx-encounter/ Deer close call

I've got a £25 eBay mini DV camera hard wired and fitted to the VX at the moment.

Video link is here (choose HD in settings). Not bad for about £70 all in.

How longs does memory last for packs? Do you have to reset the camera everytime you get in and go for a drive?

No, it'll just start recording over the oldest recording that isn't locked

Mine looks the same as your packs but is a mini 0801. A 16gb memory card records about 3 hours of footage but it loops over the oldest stuff unless you tell it to protect a clip.

It serves its purpose I suppose. And there isn't anywhere I could mount a Mobius on the VX which wasn't going to obscure my view.

I think p4cks has got the older DV version, the newer Mini 0801 (1080 backwards) is Full HD and it's Great. Incidentally ZooBeef your uploaded Video is showing 'Private' when played.

Not long!, but I have bought several iterations of these cameras before.

Pros :

great quality. Comparable to a GoPro for a -lot- less and easier to mount.

80 min battery

pc config app with tons of options

cheap

wide angle lens

auto exposure control works pretty well

Cons :

no screen so can be tricky to mount straight/level. there is an android app in development to use your phone as a monitor

a multicoloured led is the only indication of what mode its in, bit fiddly

if windscreen mounted, dash reflections and vibration can be an issue. But true of any windscreen mounted camera I guess!

mild fisheye effect due to wide angle lens

Link to buy in the description :
