If I am driving for hours on end on a motorway in a cramped and noisy sports car the last thing I want to do is sit for half an hour in a big box on a train. Makes you understand what animals feel like when being transported.
Its not about price. Give me a ferry with a meal, drink and comfy lounge any day. Might even get 40 winks.

There was a time, not too long ago, when you enjoyed driving the VX to the South of France, Le Mans, Luxembourg, in fact anywhere. Now it's a cramped and noisy sports car and, during the day, you need 40 winks๐ ๐ I believe it is called "getting old" ๐ Oh, and by the way, driving a cramped and noisy sports car is becoming a pain for me as well (I really do think that we are all slowly turning into Techie). My only saving grace, .insofar as your comments are concerned, is that I don't need those 40 winks๐๐๐๐๐The Knobs, on 30 Jun 2014 - 6:17 PM, said:

Exactly, fight your way down through standstill M25 traffic, baking in the summer heat.
...and then have a 4hr drive to look forward to once you hit Calais!
Sod that.

One and half hours drive from the Harwich ferry no brainer

So it's true then, we are all turning into Techie๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ Can take my time getting there and staying on for a day or so afterwards (the luxury of not working for anyone๐) so prefer to do that rather than spend 7 hours bored on a ferry. It's also no fun towing a trailer.

For me from the midlands, its 8hrs driving versus 4 and a bit. I save 4 hrs of driving with a 6hr ferry crossing.
I'll take that deal any day.
On the ferry you can go for curry and chips, have a snooze, have a dump, talk to your mates, have a beer, bore said mates to death with old trackday videos, stroll up on deck, watch a film on your tablet, then go for a second round of curry and chips. Can't do any of that cooped up in the plastic shitbox.

I'm going to sleep on the ferry - overnight both ways, and hardly any driving.

Actually I can't argue with that๐, even though your last comment proves my original point๐๐ I only live 45mins from Harwich but using the tunnel mainly because I already had cheap tickets, only have to use the M25 for 2 junctions and have a freebie night stay in Coquelles on Weds using loyalty points which minimises the travelling๐ IMO Joss is taking the sensible option of overnight on the ferry which relieves the boredom (and means that you don't have to keep avoiding that guy who is always trying to show you his track day videos)๐๐๐ Anyway, back on topic, who's getting the first round in at the hotel๐For me from the midlands, its 8hrs driving versus 4 and a bit. I save 4 hrs of driving with a 6hr ferry crossing. I'll take that deal any day. Can't do any of that cooped up in the plastic shitbox.

Only mentioned the hotel bar (I now realise the wrong night) as last year after a night out in restaurants along the beach following the trackday, we retreated there and it was closed. Shall we ring them or not? We didn't go into town last time so didn't find any bars.
