Hi all,

I've been looking at buying a VX220 Turbo for some years now. I'm making a trip to take a look at one tomorrow, potentially to put down a deposit. Although I've been researching them for years I'm no mechanic so would welcome any advice! Is there anything I should be looking out for? Having looked through a few threads I thought it might be worthwhile seeing if anybody recognises the reg and knows a bit more about it's history?...

WHO5 VXT

Any help appreciated folks!

Mark.

You will find this useful :

Best thing to do is take someone along in the area who knows VXs. Sorry not me, I'm happy to drive the beastie but have no idea how it works.

I paid a professional vehicle inspector to have a good look over mine before parting with the £££.

DO NOT put a deposit down until you are happy there is no way back, or had a second opinion..imo..there have been some sorry cases of "poor" cars being purchased not having had a full research on them , especially from some squealer dealers..

saying that I am sure someone will be around to help you..pity it is out of my patch..... Wolfy.Ibob and a couple of others???

Thanks for the help folks. I need to switch my email notifications on so I spot responses sooner!

I did go to have a look at the car as planned but it wasn't quite in the condition I was looking for. Anyway, I persisted and went along and picked another one up just today...

It's absolutely immaculate with just 8000 miles on the clock. Super chuffed with it.

Congratulations, did you get the expansion bottle renewed? I dont think coralflashes old car (wh05 vxt) will sell at the money they are asking, i had a deal agreed when at another garage a few 000's below that price but chose to go with one that didnt need any work on it.

If looking at that coral on ebay WH05 I would be looking for front damage too

It has no splitters on it , noone takes these off to make it look better

looks like the dash panel trim is missing too

Yeah, was a bit above what I'd originally planned on spending but I will look after it so thought I might as well start with the best condition I can.

I managed to knock them down to £16,500 with a 6 month warranty, full service, new cam belt and a full tank of petrol for the drive home.

I don't think the expansion bottle has been replaced - is that something I should look at getting done?

From the colour on the pic (yellow) id get it changed if it hasnt been. Then put either a carbon effect or stainless cover over it to keep the sun off it.cheap change to do.

They are a common fault to crack and leak when not covered. They become brittle when exposed to uv.

As above, but buy a genuine one from Vauxhall for around £31. My last eBay one had caused the coolant light to flick and leaked after 6 months..
