After some idiot woman recently backed into me (happy to supply details to support my label)  :angry2: , car was sent to bodywork shop who didn't have a clue, jacked car behind front wheels and put two holes in the body work!  :9mm:

A bodyshop!!

Just got over that, & decided my alloys need tidying up (amongst other things)

Wasted time taking car to a local wheel place who won't jack car for love nor money, cos they've convinced themselves they need to take the under-tray off FIRST, to find the jacking points  :ffs:

Unfortunately the original stickers are buried beneath 10 years of muck, and not even the helpful diagrams on this site & gentle coaxing will get them to change their minds

From one extreme to the other  :ffs:

The thought; a custom Google map of trusted services like, repairs, wheel refurb, servicing that folks here have experience of and feel they can trust.

There

I've done

Thoughts please?

Watford, Hertfordshire

Used TMS when was in Uxbridge, then Milton Keynes.

Have been to Scared Stiff in Banbury

Thought alloys would be simple!

Surely, if you're guiding, you're accepting responsibility so long as they follow literally?

The second picture is wrong, so it's a good job they didn't listen to you otherwise it could have ended up like this

PSR in Bishops Stortford use Lepsons in Kent who do a good job. Both will sort you out for a service and refurb.

To support the car with no wheels they were bob-on to remove the rear undertray. thumbsup The first 2 points are rubbish though, especially the bodyshop, poor form on their part.

What do you want doing? Just the alloys?

First and foremost I want somewhere localish I can take the car to when it needs something done who know what to do with the car. Alloys I want redone but there will be an ongoing list of things as I don't have the time/skills/space to do it myself. And can't part with the car (which is maybe the most sensible option! )

Buy a jack and axle stands and take the wheels off yourself. Then just drop the wheels off.

Gedi - I'm not unfamilair with the taste of humble pie, but I could have sworn I've seen my car lifted like that.

Perhaps not with wheels off.

Do you have a link to a definite guide?

Haggai961 - may have to

Unfortunately other car is e90 with piddly boot, but that's another story

Rob999 - Bishop Stortford a bit of a trek, especially as I'll have to leave the car

If can't find anything else.....

mbes2 - I've only had it 7-8 years

Thorney Motorsort used to be in Uxbridge when I lived 2 junctions up the M40, then Milton Keynes; a nice little drive from Watford

Now moved to nearer Bannbury

No interest in the map then  :(

Matt Bentley might be your closest now. Although, if you trust TMS then why not stick with them,......(thats not a recommendation by the way)

It's getting more and more the case I need a whole day off if I need anything done!

From Milton Keynes - I could at least leave the car & get the train back home

What's your issue with taking off the undertray? It takes about 5 minutes.

Happy to take undertray off myself. Wheel repairers didn't want to. Even if I do, they'll want some completely unequivocal lifting instructions

Likewise I've seen mine lifted like that but with additional supports put in under each rear wishbone to stop any chance of tipping.

The idea of the map is a great one, something I have thought about myself when I wanted some paintwork done on the old car but not sure how to go about it.

How about a colour coding with something like red for bodywork, blue for mechanical, yellow for suspension.
