Can anyone tell me what my tyres are supposed to be at? Mine ranged from 18 to 32 psi when I checked them at the weekend, which was rather worrying. Chris

My manual says 26.5 front and 27.5 rear. How you're supposed to be accurate to .5 I don't know though?!?! Was really shocked how low those figures were when I first got the car. The 215/45/17 S-02s on my old car were being run at 36 on road and 40 on track. The VX figures sound really low in comparison.

The VX is very light compared with most other cars, hence the lower pressure. I've been running 26.5 F, 27.5 R since I got my car (well as close as I can get with my analogue guage). When I replaced the rear tyres last month, after 12,000 miles, the centre part was more worn than the edges. I've been advised to run them 1 or 2 psi lower, maybe 25 F, 26 R. Apparently this is a common problem with performance cars, TVRs, Subarus, etc. where the manufacturer quotes a slightly higher pressure. The quoted pressure is probably a good compromise between normal road use and hard driving/track use. Gary

after lotsa experimenting, I came to the conclusion that the suggested 1.8atm front/1.9rear are optimal, even for track use; to be diminished a bit for summer tracking. my wear was quite uniform until the lowered spax setup, that increased camber, hence a bit more wear on the inside (price to pay for higher roadholding). at 14000km, I have 2mm left, (inner side rears are "flat") so next spring a new set will be needed.

I've been thinking of the Elise/VX as they're so different from the TVR, bit unsure about the whole sill issue though, at 6'1 with a narrow garage getting in and out could be an issue!

Tyre pressures are one of those things worth playing around with, the suggested 26/28 sounds like a pretty reasonable for the VX. On my TVR when I had the 16" wheels the factory recommend 22/24 for normal use 25/28 for sustained fast use and 28/28 for tracking. I found the 25/28 to be best all around. With the 18" alloys now on I have them set to both 26/26.
