I am hopeful had a chat with the mot guy he seemed quite confident with what has been changed that there shouldn't be any major issues. I was worried about all the talk of rusted brake lines but mine aren't even slightly corroded. Hopefully the weather will be good next weekend

Did you invert the front calipers while bleeding? Also the ABS module sometimes traps some air.

I've got 4 pots on front so shouldn't need to do that? I know about the ABS trapping it and that I need to get it to kick in to get rid of the air but wouldn't have thought that it having air in would cause spongy pedal? If the fluid can't get to the air surely it has no effect until the ABS kicks in?... Or is that wishful thinking?... Lol

Ahh no it shouldn't do unless you've moved the 2 pots to the rear.

Activating the abs on some loose gravel has shaken it loose for some!

Nah still got the original brembo on the rear. I've re bled them again with an EZ bleed and have got a far better pedal. So will see how it goes...

Ok guys having a massive issue at the minute. No matter what I do I can't get the brakes bled! What are the symptoms of a failed master cylinder?... Going to have to cancel the MOT tomorrow as it won't pass with a crap spongy pedal! I've bled 4litres of 5.1 through the bloody car and still a sh*t pedal!!! Argh!!! Any help will be much appreciated, I'm almost giving up on the car now! I feel like it doesn't want to go on the road!!

If your using the exibleed still check the seal on the top of the bottle, if it sits wrong it let's air in as I have found at before...

It doesn't seem to be leaking when it was connected I couldn't hear any noises and there was no visible signs of leaking from the connections. I'm going to have to order some more fluid and just keep trying. If it is the master cylinder I'll have to wait till I get paid :( Bloody hate this stupid plastic POS!!!!

If the MC is gone you normally get fluid running down the servo.

It will be air trapped in the abs unit. Take it the Vauxhall for a Tech 2 bleed.

Also just checking you have turned the front calipers upside down when bleeding? As air can never get from the back side of the calipers due to link pipe at the bottom.

I've got 4 pots on the front. Would air in the ABS cause a spongy pedal?

Im not sure on the inner workings of the abs unit but even not activated there may be chance to it to catch on the tight passageways.

You can activate it on a loose surface then re - bleed.  Saves using a tech 2.

iirc the abs block is sealed, so probably air trapped would be from it being a high point in the system

So after bleeding the brakes and the clutch all morning (about 5 times) I managed to get a half decent pedal feel. got convinced to take the car for its MOT...

So it started with a bit of a bad start... We were abit cautious driving the car in as there was a bit of a bump to get in originally but it got in. Roger took the VIN number to confirm the car details and straight away he flagged up

"It says the car is silver?... It definetely doesnt look silver to me"

To which i replied "It used to be Silver haha"

I'll start with the good bits. It PASSED!!!

But fortunnately Roger was a friend of Alex (Gorbachov on here) and the car got through with a few how should we call it "advisories".

I'll list them

1.     Both headlights need adjusting. Pax is about half inch low and drivers is high.

2.     Brakes... Well what can i say!!! I knew they'd be sh*t but we are putting it down to the fact they are new disks and pads and there is still some air stuck in the system.

3.     Emissions. everything bar the Lamba portion passed with flying colours. It was soo close to the limit! Any ideas what I could do to sort that for next year??

4.     One of the gators on the steering rack has a slight split (annoying as i missed it when i had the rack out!!)

So not all bad considering it was in a million peaces not so long ago.

I had smoke bellowing from the radiator (putting this down to some break fluid that i spilt on it :ffs: ) and the heat sheild part that is attached to the boot wasn't place correctly and was touching the manifold so loads of smoke from both ends!! was stressfull to say the least! But once the break fluid had burnt off it stopped smoking and once i had moved the heat sheild bit it stopped aswell. So it didnt catch fire!!

Oh and wow does my TMS manifold glow when it held at 3k revs!! Was really cool if you looked past it trying to set fire to the car.

So all in all a failry stressful day but it passed albeit i have a few jobs to sort out but atleast i can now legally get out and bed the brakes in and try to sort out the air thats trapped. thumbsup

Car next to Alex's getting ready to go to the MOT station.

This is exactly what I envisioned my VX will eventually look like when I have one.
