A quick question just remebered. does anyone know a good place to get the rubber grommets for the side abs unit bracket? being a tit i sent it to the powder coaters with them fitted and i can only imagine theyve been blasted to bits and binned so need some new ones. i've had a quick search and found a replacement for the no.11 in link but cant find anything for the grommet 13 and 14?...will i just have to go to vauxhall?

cheers

Hey al sorry I hadn't been in touch since the sw meet. been so tied up trying to sort my house purchase. Plus wasn't too sure if you had it on the road at the mo after seeing your old front clam up for sale. Feel free to give me a shout if you need a spare pare of hands for anything. Alex

Hey mate, that's cool no worries I figured you would've been getting organised with moving house and all. How's the move going? Ha!! Nope car is not on the road and with all this nice weather really wishing it was  front clam 'Should' be here this week. Jons really busy at the minute, but I'm starting with the sills first so I'm not in a massive rush to get it here. He said it will hopefully be here this week so just waiting to here back from him regarding delivery. I'm going to be organising something with Nev for him to pop down at some point so your more than welcome to come round then, and as I said at the meet if your ever passing feel free to pop in for a tea/ coffee. I was originally planning to have the car going in for it's Geo (need to find somewhere to do it) and MOT in April next year so hopefully the weather will be just as nice then. I'm going to try and get it done sooner but I'm going to take my time doing the paint. Al

The house we were going for fell through at the last minute which was anoying and cost me. Should be completing with the purchase of the new one were going for at the end of the week fingers crossed. Yeah give me a shout if nev's coming down would be very interested to have a look at his, would also be good to have a nose around yours with the clams off as I was thinking of sorting an ally radiator once I've got a garage to do it in. Definitely worth taking your time and doing a proper job of it. Are you keeping it silver?

I've gotten used to it being on stands that when I put it on it wheels was strange seeing how low it was. Haha. I'm going to try and convince be to take me out in his  Nope not keeping it silver too many of them want it to be a little more unique.

Thought you might be moving away from silver. Yh nev's car sounds scary 😯. Wish mine looked lower its on some compo's now but still on standard shocks so looks a bit 4x4 at the mo. Yet another thing that will need to be sorted after the house has gone through. Was hard enough persuading the mrs that I needed to change the wheels so I think I'd be in trouble if I did anything else to it right now. 😄

Just be aware that although it is 2k paint (ie has a hardener mixed in) it doesn't have the same level of strength as iso based hardener. I looked into this myself and decided against it after reading several reviews, I'd be keen to hear how you get on with it. I feel that the hardest and most important choice to make is what paint system to use so would like to hear opinions on other systems.

I know what you mean since reading his thread been wanting to see it! Shame he couldnt make it to the SW meet. Haha If i hadn't have got my nitrons all cleaned up i wouldve lent you them until im ready for them... But theyre all clean and shiny don't want to get them dirty  I know that feeling i'm soo lucky Sam's soo forgiving! I can only imagine if i had married someone else id be dead!

I never thought of that tbh. I'll keep you updated on how it goes (hopefully well). i'm just trying to get the right air fitting for all my tools keep ordering bits and they keep turning out to be the wrong bit!! Figured it now the ones i need are the short fat ones not the long thin one. didnt even realise there was different types of quick release  nevermind everydays a school day.

Update on the front clam. Just been on the phone to Jon he'll be delivering it on Thursday along with my hardtop and the liner. More bits to store in my shed (diningroom)

Little update,

So had a nice exciting visit from Jon (Johnyboy) on Thursday, he delivered these:

Nice new hardtop

So with these delivered i had to get them into the dining room and organise it so i could fit them in. After tear the dining table down and removing anything that wasn't a car part i ended up with the dining room looking like this

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

In front of the patio doors was the only place i could find to hang my Reindeer skin from Norway which i have still to get mounted on a board... Struggling to find the time to do anything other than the car at the moment.

Made a start on sanding down the sills yesterday and finished them off today got a few cracks repaired and did some fillering and more sanding. long two days but ive ended up with them looking like this

Posted Image

Posted Image

I will be going back over them with 240 grit paper before i get on with the painting, but getting there. I thought as ive had a few questions regarding the setup im using for spraying the car i thought id take a few photos to show everyone, sorry theyre not very good but the main garage door has been sealed now so cant be opened.

As you come from Utility room, Big box is the extraction unit. Houses a 20" high velocity fan with a filter before and after.

Posted Image

As you come through the door you can see the entrance to the 'spray booth' and work bench for mixing paint.

View from door, luckily the garage is quite big making enough room around the car to work on it (about a meter either side)

Posted Image

View from back corner you can see on left the extraction unit held up by a stanley tool box  filter is quite dirty. (been using it while sanding)

nice work, a few suggestions regarding paint security and finish:

- you should use a 3 stage filter

- you should use an air fed mask (even though it is non iso cyanate)

- you need to get rid of all the dust on the floor

- paint a few panels at a time, otherwise you will stink up the whole neighbourhood

From what I can remember Jules your car was really nice!

They're AP 4 pots, brakes were setup by previous owner JohnTurbo. They're off an mgtf I believe.

I know I should use a three stage filter but can't really justify spending all that money for one spray job, if I decide to do more then I'll consider it. I'm planning on getting an airfed mask closer to when I get spraying. All the prep work is getting done before any of the spraying gets done and the whole inside will be getting washed down and squeegeed out. I am planning to do all the spraying over a fair amount of time. I'm doing the sills first will then wait about a week before moving the car out and move onto the front clam, then rear clam etc. Cheers for the tips though.

Well your certainly going a lot further than me for getting setup 'correctly' to do it.

I have just tested my polishing system on the old front clam and can say it has come out very well so I have no doubt you'll get a great result with this.

Ok so been a while since ive updated this. Had a visit from Nev and Gorbachov recently, and gave them a little tour of my "workshop" Also got to have a little poke around Nipper which i really cool!!

First thing i needed to do was get the car back on its wheels and moved outside to make room for working on the clams and other parts.

The rear clam had a few cracks here and there and some minor bubbling which i had to take car of. The majority of the cracks were along the thin strip that sits right behind the window, i can only imagine someone had tried to pick up the clam using it, so i figured it must be a common place to go and added long strips of fibreglass along the width of the clam which has strengthened it up enormously, not enough to use as a handle but its a lot less flimsy.

I also figured that because i plan to design and make my own coupe rear over the winter i would cut out some holes for cooling.

Posted Image

Posted Image

I then decided i would make a start on the front clam and prep it ready for the arrival of my louvres which FLD had kindly put together for me, these arrived along with the bonnet he had kindly given me as a swap.

While i was waiting for the filler to dry on the front clam thought as ive heard of a lot of people having trouble getting their clams to line up i would quickly trial fit mine, as i had the cover off the car taking some photos for Sworks. Fortunately it lined up absolutely spot on, big thumbsup to Jon for the product he has!! Also made a few brake cooling holes for which i will be making some parts to direct the air into hoses.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Seeing the car with the new clam on also made me trial fit it with the new bonnet, this has given me a new burst of motivation to get the car done now as i can see the light at the end of the tunnel (bloody long tunnel though!!)

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Filler on the sides is to remove those random joint lines which IMO look stupid!!

So with my new enthusiasm i got the clam off and started the long drawn out process of filling and sanding and filling and sanding  :ffs:  And this is result at the end of the last two days of sanding!!

Posted Image

Got a little bit more filling and sanding to do then im going to put a little bit of high build primer over them and sand that back a few times to make sure its 100% smooth.

Just incase anyone was wondering ive decided to keep the fog light holes because i plan to either put the set of fog lights ive bought in or buy one of those led drl kits to go in their place.

Now getting very close to the paint just got couple of little bit to fix on the doors and flat off the bonnet and boot and its go time.
