Personally I'd stick to the people that know our cars. I personally use MMG as he's the most honest/trustworthy guy I have used and it's worth traveling the 100+ miles for

EH in Hull do as they did the servicing on my VX prior to my ownership. Not saying that I'd use them myself mind.

my VX too was pre serviced them.

anyone know about Philip Welsh and how good they are. they seem to have high end cars which all are serviced by them. 100 miles to MMG is a tad to far. there must be a component mechanic  closer. end of the day surely its a Vauxhall engine. BMW, Jags, Porsches etc must be just as specialised. These cars get serviced without any problems.

I'm just crossing the Ts and dotting the is before hand so if out does go wrong I know where to take the car.

I believe Philip welch has worked on lotus before (can't remember if he said he's worked on vx's before?) he does have a good reputation so I guess the choice is yours? Your right it's just a vauxhall engine but the problem come's when it comes to taking clam's of etc as a lot of people haven't a clue where as the Vx specialists are working on out little plastic cars day in and out, all imo

Your best bet is to do what the majority of us do, which is to learn to work on the car yourself. A full service history isn't really worth anything with these cars anymore, so you aren't going to harm its value by not getting the book stamped.

If you have no interest in getting your hands dirty or travelling, then you should search for local Lotus specalists. Seloc might be a good place to start your search.

thanks for that Bumblebee. I will keep that in mind. Hopefully when servicing is due next year It may be worth making a day out over there and plan things (if possible) for the service to be done in the morning and pick the car up at close of business

There's also track torque racing who have worked on my family's cars although it's all been suspension/handling related so I'm not sure if they do servicing etc?

The problem with Philip Welsh is that if you get your MOT done at the same time they drive it to a back street garage in York to get it done so you are still at risk of it being damaged.

I took mine to a local garage as it was only due a minor service which is not much more than an oil change and a washer bottle top up. I got the MOT done at the same time.

They said had experience of Lotus Elise's. I spent ten minutes with them showing them the jacking points, bonnet catch etc. I also banned them from driving it pre or post service. I made a note of the mileage to make sure it was the same when I picked it up. They did a good job and let me off with a slightly dodgy number plate size as well (although they did fail it then immediately pass it to cover their own arse)

Yeah the industrial estate. One of the taxi drivers recommended it and I noticed a couple of taxis in the car park. Taxis tend to avoid the cowboys as word soon gets around if a place is untrustworthy or does substandard work.
