What's the best aero mod (performance per £)? Have a stage 4 tubby. No body work mods. Was thinking a diffuser?

Best performaance per pound would have to be a 50p roll of gaffa tape and seal over all the clam joins and shut lines to reduce your coefficient of drag. On a more serious note but along the same vein a coupe style back should do wonders.

Take the roof off for free downforce (and increased drag).

Splitter (although I'd imagine you need a fairly big one to have any real effect)

Splitter at the front and a gurney flap (not a spoiler) on the back. Running the car very low to the ground would help on tracks too.

Has anyone fitted a gurney flap to a vx? Pics? I like the idea of a Tvr style one.

Lots of fancy diffusers at the national. Are they not worth the effort? Where do I get a coupe style rear? Lee's looks real smart

I have a Exige 2010 rear spoiler with a gurney mod . The best mod I found was the front splitter . The front to me feels more planted at speed

I never had a big rear spoiler, always found the front end too light. Robin spoiler a good investment IMO.

Dropped ride height to 65mm and a big strong front splitter. I experimented with this and the frontal downforce was truely susbtancial, the steering was heavy at mid speeds (90 to 120 leptons).

So no votes for diffusers?

From what I have heard Diffusers need to be low down and stick a long way out (and therefore look a little silly on a road car) to have any effect and wings need to be stupidly big and high.

e.g.

Not really, no.  Diffusers need to do a good job of slowing the air down whilst keeping attached flow and the best ones do that in the smallest length possible to leave more room for the flat floor in front which is the part which actually generates the -ve lift.  Wings are used in two ways, sometimes up high in free stream air and sometimes low and over/behind the diffuser to help pump air through it and keep the flow attached.  the latter is the more efficient downforce producer.

Winstar did some CFD on the VX diffuser and the results suggest that it requires the main tray and diffuser to have end fences to make it work.  The majority of current diffusers look good.
