Are there any differences between the opel speedster and the vx220 other than its country of origin?
Are they more expensive to insure??
Was thinking about looking at this one:

Where is it you think they originated from?
I suspect with that being a RHD the owner has just rebadged it purely out of personal preference to be a bit different? If so it will still be registered as a Vauxhall and shouldn't make a bit of difference to the insurance although you should still declare the cosmetic changes or revert to the griffin badges.

so it should just be a case of checking if it was an import on the v5, or does the fact that its rhd mean 100% thats its not?

I had an opel Speedster when I insured it it was registered on the DVLA database as a VX220 so no issues at all. If its an Irish car its not technically an import. Highly unlikely that a RHD speedster will cause any significant issues.

This, way back when it looked like the vx220/speedster was going to be a sales success, there were independent dealers selling parallel imports & they ordered Opel Speedsters from Southern Ireland to sell in the UK. Anyway the car didn't sell & the parallel imports sat & sat until the dealers discounted them heavily to shift them, regardless of the number plate they tend to be early builds from late 2000/early 2001Probably originated in Ireland..

Cars originally built for Ireland (South not Northern) are indeed right hand drive OpelsThere were some rhd speedsters made as I know one of the owners of one.

quite a while = many years
I believe there was a thread about this car and it might have some 'history'

I recall test driving a red Opel on a 52 plate. It was silly low miles back in 2007 (10K iirc) and it had no service history as "It wasnt due mate..." FFS twats.
Not saying this is the same car but I dont know how many Opels are in the UK that are red and circa 2002 vintage and low miles.

You'll then notice plastic window winder handles & handbrake grip. Not all VX/speedsters are the same
Never noticed the window handles... was that normal? Never seen any like that before, always assumed they all had the aluminium ones (unless swapped for carbon fibre after market ones).

First lot of paperwork that I saw (UK spec) showed the alloy window winders & handbrake handle as a dealer fit accessories but to my knowledge all UK (Vauxhall Motors) cars had the alloy bits as standard.Never noticed the window handles... was that normal? Mine's an Opel RHD Speedster. As far as I can see from its history it never made it to Ireland. Never had any problems insuring it. (I'm using Admiral multicar insurance)
