Chris had my old 2.2 for his car., Where abouts do you live ?Kieran, rumour has it you live minutes away from me? I believe I was speaking about you yesterday with Chris with the blue NA? I will look into the engine swap, Judging by the video there isn't much between the turbo and SC (although if the same weight stripping went into the SC I would say it would probably have the edge!) 2k would be fine to go stage 3. Would be more than happy with paying that. What's the general bhp figures for each stage with SC? I thought it was stage 2 - 250ish, stage 3 - 300 ish and never even seen stage 4 before?

Stage II (250/260) is fixed as it's a stock M62 SC on a stock engine on stock exhaust with just precat removed.
As soon as you go stage 3, you need enforced pistons (breakpoint 300) and rods (breakpoint 275).
Getting 270/280 is easy. The last 20 is more expensive and work.
Stage 4 is a harrop supercharger.
Biggest stage 4 problem is inlet temp, which can be fixed with water injection.

Have a look at the South American VX220's too, they race them a lot there apparently. If I were you I'd wait and buy a stage 3+ SC'ed car or a stage 4+ TC'ed car, I think Davemate on here might be tempted to sell his as he is moving country. Being close to CS will help (if you are rich), but learning and DIY is always cheaper. There are some knowledgeable people on this site and almost anything you attempt to do will likely have been done by someone on here already, so just ask.
Be aware of the "charge temp" limits of a SC'ed cars, this is an achilles heal of the more powerful ones at the moment and does not have (as far as I'm aware) a satisfactory resolution yet.
From memory I don't remember and SC'd car with forged internals going up for sale ever.(Daves thinking about excluded )
Hitting 300bhp will be much easier/cheaper on a TC than SC'd car as you don't need to change the internals.
Saab is an option with M62 but not a well trodden path yet, isn't so straight forward, but there are lots of people here that can help and from "should" take to higher revs than the 2.2
If you're wanting to compete in TA you'd better get a wriggle on, especially if you're going to do it all yourself

Remember with Time Attack you need to have an overall objective, for example are you looking to just have a bit of fun and dont mind being low down on the times, or are you looking to be competitive.
As that level of thinking will dictate what you do with the car, I obviously dont expect you to go as mad as me building a Time Attack car but you need to decide what you want time attack to be, luckily you have experience in the mini not setting the timing boards alright so im guessing this is more of a fun thing?

being blunt, Time Attack club classes are a relatively soft target for a VX, most of your competition are FWD euro-boxes.
if you take a look at TSL and compare laptimes to other club racing you will see what I mean.
even at the top level, there's only really 2-3 serious cars to beet.
