So ... some of you may remember that i've set out to SC my vx QUITE a while back.

Many many setbacks later (such as clams taking 4-5 months instead of three weeks, insurance being dickheads, etc) ... It's FINALLY running.

You may also remember that i wanted a set of unequal length headers for it.  I've had one fabricated, and i'm quite pleased with the results.

It has a nice rumble, just like i wanted.  The sound it makes probably isn't for everyone, but i certainly like it!

The cell phone cam didn't like the sound very much, though, and it makes it sound a bit distorted, especially in the second video.

First start:

Settled to idle and some gentle revs up to +- 4K.

Let me know what you think!

Now when the clams are on, i can finally send the molds for the quad elise rear lights back.

I've also got five extra sets made that i'll be giving away!

I wish I had that space to work!

Mate's garage.

100 square meters!

Currently filled up with a lot of stupid sh*t we come up with, lol.

- (Soon to be (maybe (possibly))) Bike engined go-kart

- Three bikes

- Tons of radio amateur stuff

- Loads of VX parts

- Salt water aquarium stuff

etc etc.

So, yes, it's huge, but it's also pretty small :)

Yes, that's exactly what.

Thinking about talking to Jon and making this a "thing".

Looks very nice :)

HP Decrease and torque increase, especially at low to midrange.

For SC, it will be so small, you won't notice.

For NA, it will have a small, but noticeable effect.

The very worst case is that i lose like 2-3 hp over this.  I can live with that in exchange for the sound.

I just like the look of that comfy looking chair to the side. I could waste plenty of spanner time just relaxing :)

Conversion looks very good! I'd possibly be interested in them if they are available. Is it a case of bonding them in and then fiberglassing over the join with the clam?

Gotta have the googling chair, mate :D

Yes, but it's a pain :)

I'm going to have a chat with Jon (elisehardtops).

I bought one of his front clams, and i am very impressed with his work.

He could definitely cook up a "kit" i'm sure.

I personally prefer a quite sounding car with a nice roar when opening up but at the same time I can see the attraction to the loudness just not for me. The rear clam looks epic though!

It's actually pretty quiet, unless you punch it.  It was idling the whole time during the second video.

The camera also makes it sound a lot harsher than it really is.

Update:  Sold out on the tail light sets :)

That was fast!

Still working on making this into a kit, because as it sits right now, it is a MAJOR pain in the posterior to get the alignment right ...

Also something slightly amusing that happened ... it's a bit embarrassing ...

Forgot to hook up the main earth to the block.  It decided it wanted to use the parking brake cables as earth.

Glowed red hot and fused with the rubber sleeves.  Now have permanent parking brake on

Shouldn't be too loud.  We'll see.

You have to take into account that the SPL will be nearly half of what it is when running equal length headers, as less energy comes out as sound due to nearly half of the pulses cancelling out, the energy gets converted into heat instead.

Think of a subaru with an open pipe.  Loud?  Yes, but compare that to any other four banger with an open exhaust ...
