How did the time attack lotus aerodynamic monster get on ?

Seemed to spend a lot of time in the pits. Otherwise I think the aero or driver needs some more work to increase corner speeds. That's not to say it was slow, just not as quick as the aero should allow. First track session though so no real surprise.

Got back to work at about 10.30 Great day, didn't like learning the circuit but it was good once I had. I think I could definitely do with some instruction there. I have a load of videos so ill flick through them and see who I can find. Need to sort out a more secure mount for my phone as there's a fair amount of vibrations. Harrys lap timer says my best was 2.24.01 with an optimum of 2.23.12

I really enjoyed yesterday, in fact it has renewed my enthusiasm in the car, which was tbh beginning to wane. The car ran well and my laps were improving as the day went on. I think the VX dominance was very much in evidence on the track and in the paddock. Typically I took my camera and didn't take any pics so if someone could post some up that would be great. Thanks to WrightStuff for letting us dump our gear in his garage and thanks to all the VXers who made it a great day.

Really enjoyed the track once I'd learnt it. I liked that they put the names of the corners out nice touch that.

Struggled with coram I hadn't a clue in that bit.

My car has been very reliable this year done loads of track days only needed normal servicing.

Lost a bit more paint though, not helped by cheeky sods poking bits off!

Noise test was surprising! As usual they asked for 5400rpm, I said that's too high for 3/4 max revs so we agreed on 4800rpm. In the end was just under 4800 and it registered 89dba so my Tullet exhaust repacking seems to be holding up

Great time and always good to everyone and good to see Lauren getting stuck in.

Super, extra mega thanks to Zoobeef, who after my car lost gears on track just calmly stuck his head and hands into a hot engine bay (with help from 5 oclock and Lauren) and got on and solved the problem. Had a bad shuddering on track which seemed to have resolved itself on the way home and may well have been caused by a large chunk of mud stuck on the rear wheel after a light bit of off roading by Lauren (she even pushes my car hard) but so all seems ok. Horrible, to once again be towed off track though!

All the vx's were as ever, some of the quickest cars out there, strangely hardly bumped into any of them during the day but it is quite a long track.

Bring on the next one.

Martin S

PS Sorry Mark and Mark and all the convoy following me, for the mess up at the services coming home. Had pulled off to go to the services and just at the point where the lights went to change, Dave E shouted at me to go that way and was pointing in a different direction to my plan, then his car made a loud horrible noise (I am so gutted for you Dave) and the lights changed and in the confusion I went down the wrong lane and back on to the motorway.

I did the full 5400rpm.  A yummy 101db :)  nice and loud :) The cat is coming out post MOT this year too, so that should rule me out from pretty much every UK track

How many of us were there in total?  I think the only single make that came close was the RX8 owners club?  I counted about 7 or 8 of them.  Which is probably 0.0000001% of all the RX8s in the UK

Looks like I was the noisiest vx with a test at 103db and a comment from Lee that it was painfully loud from track side side :) Got lots of footage - followed mark (fiveoclock) for a few laps and got some nice shots of exhaust fire balls. Otherwise not many other vx's. I think I have the purple elise somewhere. Thanks go to fiveoclock for supplying some emergency front brake pads when I found my pagids had about 1mm of pad left after the first session (oops).

To Capt Vimes, I followed you into the pitlane and that's as close as I got. I believe in warming up my brakes and tyres at least for the first 1/2 lap but you seem to gun it straight out of the pitlane. By the time I got to Agostini you were gone, I think you had a pax too.

BTW I'm only going on track days when 5oc and Zoobeef are going.

I like captain vimes warm up technique, its the only way, and I too, am only doing track days when there's Mark, or mark, Lee or, oh basically anyone who has more knowledge than me (that possibly even includes my daughters hamster).

Vx'ers are great people.

When Zoobeef and I left he found a long 1/2" bar with a 17mm blue wheel bolt socket on it (think its a Seeley one that comes in a red box with a red and yellow/green one also), I thought the socket was mine but it isnt (I now have two). So if you lost this then I have the socket and Mark (Zoobeef) has the bar. PM me with your address if its yours and I'll post it to you.

I always try and warm the car up and exit the pit lane with good intentions but then forget by the 2nd corner, at whcih point I'm swiftly reminded with a big slide due to cold tyres. But that helps warm the tyres up anyway and also makes me chuckle  :)

After trouble with coolant temps at Brands, it was good to see that my temps were fine all day yesterday. Not sure if it was just a cooler day or whether the extra under floor vents did the trick but either way the engine post SC was perfect!

Unfortunately some suspension gremlins remain - I feel a big refresh may be needed over the winter months to make sure it's all perfect for next track day season!

Finally, the only pic I got where Martin is telling everyone where the nearest pub is and Lee had been sent to the naughty corner:
