To be honest being a cat c wouldn't bother me the car is spot on :-)
This, its plain to see its been rebuilt better than Lotus ever built it!!!

Don't get me wrong - I love my VX, but it would have to be a very special VX indeed to want to swap this for!

Even as a cat c its worth far in excess of any VX

Really? Just trying to see why. At the end of the day it's a s1 elise with a kit fitted on plus it's a cat c. If I fitted the same kit to my vx would it not be worth a lot more being Hpi? Don't get me wrong the car is stunning and a lot of work has gone into but it's really a elise with bits bolted on as are vxs get shot down if we try and sell with modifications.Even as a cat c its worth far in excess of any VX

Yes really. Its a fantastically engineered conversion and rebuild not a car with bits bolted on (read the blog and look at the pictures), so much so that the cat c almost becomes irrelevant. The price of £18k has been mentioned, its a bargain at £18k, there isnt a VX anywhere that would sell for £18k

Who looks at a rebodied, engine swapped, almost totally re-engineered car then says "oh no cat-c for me thank you. I like my cars with provenance!"

That's fair enough that a lot of work has gone into it and it is something special but mine has had a lot of work also with engine, suspension etc so if I fitted the kit on mine sprayed it up would it not also be worth 24k that a few have said? Not be awkward but it annoys me how much more the lotus is then the vx when really it's only the bodywork stopping them being the same just about. I seen a s1 exige for sale the other day for 35k. Why isn't the vxr worth that money.Yes really. Its an S1, its not the same as your VX underneath. I'm also not being awkward but if you cant see the difference between a VX with stuff bolted on (no matter how well its bolted on) and a completely re-engineered car (by someone who obviously knows what they're doing and does it to an extremely high standard) with a desired engine conversion then thats why you cant see the difference in value

I totally agree with you in many ways but I still think we undervalue are vxs. Il hopefully change people minds soon on the vx value lolIts an S1, its not the same as your VX underneath. Gotta agree. This isn't just an elise with go-faster bits bolted on like all our VX's are, this is a one off piece of engineering of which you rarely see outside of real racing teams. Even his garage (which I believe was built for this project) has more work in it than our cars do.
Also to be fair to Nelson, he originally valued it many thousands under what he's probably going to get for it, so he's being rather modest.
We _definitely_ undervalue our VX's though, to our own detriment...

He isn't looking for a straight swap

I would of been interested if it wasn't cat c. Nice car though
You are in the minority, cat C on these can be got so easy, makes little odds to many.

I think the car looks lovely and is priced well in relationship to the current market. Before buying my Exige S i seriously looked into doing a Audi S1 conversion as i believe they are absolutely superb! I am also lucky enough to know and live within 5 miles of two leading Audi Exige experts, but even with their help the build would have cost well in excess of £23K and countless man hours. We all know that in most circumstances spending money on cars is a black hole although i believe modified VX's offer quite a good return (within reason). I hope some one on the forum snaps this Exige up as it has truly monsterous potential!

Most people can see what this is, a fantastic piece of usable engineering. Some are concerned about the fact it might have had a knock in the past and are not presented like a garage queen. You are in the minority, cat C on these can be got so easy, makes little odds to many.I would of been interested if it wasn't cat c. why not get a VIC test done and remove the cat c status (cost £41)
