I am seriously thinking of buying a replacement Z20LET motor into my Z22SE NA.

Anyone who has such knowledge or experience, would you share the weak points or obstacles on the long way of motorswap please?

 

I would get a shorter final gear ratio, lighter flywheel, new clutch for sure to get a more optimal setting, but what else is needed in your opinion? (the Z20LET comes from an Astra with all accessories, but I am sure I need a new cable harness, intercooler, routing, etc...)

Opinions please! Thank you.

Unless you are really attached to your current car and/or already have substantial mods surely it would be cheaper or at least far easier just to sell up and buy a VXT?

The cut is very very minor and to boot inner lip for vent section to clear top hat / pipe clearance. Also some holes for turbo chimney I did a astra vxr and 6 speed box on my standalone conversion. Saves the pain of retro fitting turbo loom and better starting point over older turbo lump Stanalone gives that 1:1 tb / pedal ratio and linear power delivery of the n/a with proper power and torque DG

Thanks for the comments, actually Fezzaus is right about VXr´s in Hungary... THere are 0 for sale.

I was also thinking of supercharging the NA, but the getting a Z20LET seems to be cheaper, while saving the original engine as well...

You'll need the gearbox swapping completely as the starter is on the otherside

All of your forced induction needs taken care of and more. It will probably reduce your BHP rather than raise it but at least it is lovely and shiney.

Anyway, Audi have some serious ideas about such electric turbo mods already... just give these guys a couple of years and we may see such things on the road!

Specs say it could make about 0.1 bar.

That's about 12.5 bhp (and no cooling needed)

Visteon added and electrically assisted turbo (vtes) to boost the output of small engines in 2002/2003ish..... IF its taken 10years to get nearly tested by the bigger companies then its not a huge step. Unless its like the f1 type of mgu boost add/control.

It does, but only really integrated as a hybrid setup.

A properly designed one, well of course, its working in F1, and has been proven a few tiems in the past 10 years (as I mentioned before)

My thoughts too. Probably more proven than an engine swap now.
