£16.5k for a stock tubby? Stage4's like Rick's went for under that! You obviously know the market better than most of us. To spend that kind of money is beyond me, when you can get basically the same car for near £10k less. I know it's a 'rare' example with low miles. However the brand 'VXR' was never pushed enough for a premium likes what people ask. Eg. Like the .R from Renault. I didn't even know they maid a VXR until 6months of ownership.

Good price  thumbsup

I reckon it'll be a good investment too, it's only gonna go up in price if it's kept standard.

Everything you've said there underlines why standard cars are worth more.

Stage4 VXT a virtually underivable machine that breaks all the time* or a low mileage one that nobody has been buggering about with? Most people new to the marque would want a stock one that they will probably modify to stage 2/3/4 over their ownership but you'd need big balls to buy someone elses unknown quantity.

I sold a VXT for £14500 earlier this year - Its been the most inquired about car I've had all year. That had a lot of miles on though 20k ;)

Even with Lotus stuff a 10 or 20k Elise is always nice but my heart doesn't pump quite as fast as it does when I uncover a low mile VX220. Finding a nice VX is 10 times harder than getting a nice Lotus. How do you even price them? They are so rare now you could say 30k for that VXR and it would be hard to argue it was too expensive. My old saying again "find another one" :D

Just remember people thought 18k was top end for S1 Exiges 6 or 7 years back

*this is what people would think

Cant say that trade secrets n that innit :D

More than 16.6K

Maybe I'm misty eyed with the VX because of my personal connection but they are sought after still hence my total belief in the higher prices for them. If they are nice examples.

I also know the physical pain of having sold a mint one and in 2 full years of looking haven't found anything that could touch it. The current tubby I have in is actually probably if its even possible in slightly better condition but I prefer the 2.2 as I'm sure I have bored many people with before.

It's the short arms, deep pockets side of me that knows you could get the same for less. Hence why I sold up the sc and bought the cheap NA. That's from a tuning/ performance point of view though. Never have got my head around someone getting enjoyment from a car just sitting in a garage year in, year out.

Hardtop was a £1500 option when bought with the car, not sure about after the original purchase though.

It's a similar concept with my Sport 160, it's an SVA so they only did 50 of them but a few hundred more when they wanted to use up the bits and realised they would sell. When I bought it I paid a premium and when I sell it someone else will It doesn't make sense as you could buy a regular Elise make it look the same make it perform better and for less money. But in S1 Elise (not Exige) terms it's the daddy and this keeps the residuals up (I hope) Btw I undersold my Tubby :(

Sport 160 is a typical example of provenance. Probably the most sought after Elise. You could build a better one cheaper but it wouldn't be a 160. Same with Exige vs converted Elise with Exige body. Same car just the log book that's different.

The answer to the high price = Find another one.

Lets sort this argument once and for all.

If you buy it at £21.5K then we can all say thats what a good low mileage now VXR goes for. Sorted and values then go up  chinky chinky
