Looked at Bruges for Saturday, couldn't really find anything that leapt out and said come to Bruges. Seloc also recommend Ghent.

Both are lovely. I prefer Ghent though, it's a little easier to deal with, car wise.

Well we've just come back from a few days in Bruges and also took the train for a day to Ghent. Just to be different we prefer Bruges 😛😛. More compact and better atmosphere for the Xmas markets. Found a nice bar in Ghent though! Stayed at an hotel just on the outskirts with plenty of parking which was just 10-15 mins walk into town so no problems with traffic/parking etc

Bah Humbug Mr Grumpy😄😄 Xmas market was in Ghent as well, in fact just about in every euro city this time of year. Just full of expensive tat though!

Yup. Made that mistake before in Bruges funnily enough and Hamburg when I used to live there half the week. I'm sure there's some factory in China the Black Forest churning out the same sh!t 24/7/365 and sending it all over Europe for Christmas markets. Gotta wonder what the German's have these days when you can't move for German markets in the UK.

Continuing the romantic nature of the trip, someone mentioned Ghent was nice and as the track day is a Monday, how about leaving Sat and staying over in Ghent on the way down?

Out Sat 25th Eurotunnel about 10ish

Ghent Sat night, all you can eat ribs & beer

Stavelot Sun night (in a dungeon in my case apparently)

Track Mon

Stavelot Mon night

Return Tue 28th

Thoughts, and any ideas for hotel in Ghent we can all stay in?

So, as I was saying....

Anyone up for this plan and hotel suggestions please from those who have been before.

Lucky 13 eh Keiran? Any more for any more? :D At this rate the "National" will be @ Spa

Going out and return on the Harwich to Hook both night crossings. Only a three hour drive to Spa.

Yes I could be up for a stopover on the Sat Sean.

Heard Ghent is nice. I will have a look at hotels.

We stayed in a  good hotel for the last two years in Brugge when going to Zandvoort. Ghent is also good but smaller.

Thanks Martin. For a 1 day/night stopover on the way to Spa would you recommend Bruges over Ghent ?

If you could chuck a few hotel names in our direction that would be smashing  thumbsup

Been to Brugge twice, not been to Ghent so would vote for Ghent, if this was a vote that is.

Have also stopped over in Brussels on the way to Spa F1 a long time ago and inadvertently ended up driving around the red light district looking for our hotel in my WRX STi I had at the time with its blacked out rear windows, which turned out didn't black everything out, but that's another story.

Brugge would be far better. Ghent is small.

Will post up hotels tomorrow.
