Recently purchased a vx220 with 110000 on the clock. Was playing around with the idea of doing an engine transplant with it as ive had an engine laying round in a mates garage for two or so years from an old project which I never got round to starting. The engine is a 2011 T5 engine out of a C30. Was just looking for some back round or enitial thoughts from some of you knowledgeable people on org. This would be my first major project and a friend will be at hand to help whos also keen and pretty knowledgeable. Ive only managed to drive the car for about 5 miles since purchasing it but really want to make it a head turner thanks for any comments or advice ross

Hello Ross, if it is something you fancy doing, by all means, but it will cost a lot of money to go that route.

I understand this neil, maybe I should have mentioned ive sort of made a start on the project already and taken a number of pics etc was just trying to judge if others where interested and if its worth writing a project thread for others to follow. Any help from others would also be appreciated of course.....think I may have put my initial post in the wrong place as im new to org. Thanks for the reply

Put the T5 on ebay, rebuild a forged engine and supercharge.

Hi Neil, I think the comments received so far to me at least suggest you might not yield as much satisfaction as other tried and tested engine transplant/Z20LET upgrades. Selling the T5 power plant and investing the cash into another common upgrade route would probably give you a more impressive result. I've read about engine transplants from Honda S2000's. Although sticking with the existing engine and supercharging would also be a nice project. Any kind project/challenge is not without it's merits. Personally, if I had the time and money I'd buy and old RX7, strip it and rebuild the engine - just for no other reason than I've fancied doing it ever since I owned one several years back. But I neither have the time nor money so I'll keep gradually investing[burning] cash into the VX220 with the commom upgrades.

Don't listen to them.. Some thing more interesting than variations of average GM engines that have been done to the death is the way forward if you have the skills and inclination.. I've wanted a decent V6 engine swap for these cars, but there's not much decent from the GM stable..

Volvo fives are common as muck in Sweden and they sound quite nice. 

A lot of tuning stuff should be available as well.
