Last week we fabricated some fibre glass strips to replace the knackered metal one.

Aren't the originals supposed to be a sacrificial / galvanic anode?

If so, replacing them with fibreglass defeats the purpose

Nope.

Sacrificial parts only work in an electrolyte (eg, water). The parts on the VX are simply spacers made from the same material as the rest of the subframe (galvanised steel), they corrode more because water becomes trapped on each face.

I used some Duralac to make it a gasket interface, hopefully stop water being trapped against the subframe. It had already made quite an attack on the subframe under the originals at the sides.

Also at some point someone had replaced one with a bit of aluminium, which I would consider worse.

Nice one. Feeling slightly mugged after the simplicity of the VIC check?

Been a long time since I've seen this sight out my window.

Massive panic on yesterday before the VIC check as had a brake fluid leak. Crabash to the rescue again. After checking under the bonnets of around 50 cars in the local scrap yard it turns out our cars are unique in many ways. So i turned up at his in desperation. Quick think and he fashioned a repair to the widget thing that goes from the brake fluid reservoir hose to the master cylinder. Turns out the only other car in history with a similar part is a 70s Beetle!

Anyway, it passed. Told the inspector I never wanted to see him again.

I know it's been 7 months since I drove it but it seems incredibly quick. Perhaps the light weight front clam and new lighter exhaust set up have made a difference. Might just be me needing to recalibrate from hyper miling in a C2. Certainly through 1st, 2nd and 3rd I cant grab gears quickly enough.

Bit concerned the power may have crept up to dangerous levels so hopefully get the WMI turned on and some mapping done this weekend.

It's good to be back in a VX. Got sunburn yesterday from having the roof off B)

Congrats. It's great to see it alive again and looking better than ever. You should get agreed value now just in case something should happen and they offer you a silly payout.

I feel bad that some of the last things were rushed and not up to standard but it's alive and we can work through those issues later.

We finally took it for a test drive and logging session with the water injection switched on last night. Straight out of the box with no adjustment or tuning. Took a log with it switched off first under hard acceleration to get a base for comparison of intake temps. Then switched it on and did another log. Result? It only bloody works! Intake temps were reduced by over 18 deg C in seconds as soon as the water injection kicked in. Under normal driving conditions the sensors dont trigger it so you can leave it on all the time if you want. The amount of water injected is progressive so more throttle = more water. And before anyone asks yes I have graphs from the dutch software to prove it. I will try and post tonight. We need to do a lot of work to tune the system and the engine to get the most out of it but I am happy as a pig in sh*t that these very early tests are so promising. Big thanks to Crabash for his vision on this project. Was a satisfying moment after so much work.

thumbsup Sounds like a potential mod for the heavy trackers who want to keep intake temps down and consistent .

Aye that's why I did it. I'm astonished how quickly it works. And this is without a big charge cooler up front remember. Big test tomorrow at Hethel. See how it copes with lots of sustained acceleration.

Good to see its alive again and you can drive it now 👍 I think we need a North East meet at some point as there's enough of us up here now.

Defo, there's a good few up here now. Getting everyone together is like herding cats though.

A tour of North Yorkshire would be awesome.
