Zandvoort is quite a daunting track The zzr I think are awesome and I don't think I've pushed them very hard yet Once you find some rhythm at zandy the times do just drop

I can't wait for Zandvoort again. Will have a lot more confidence next time. Drove to work in the VX today. Teeth nearly rattled out my skull - Christ those ZZRs are hard! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It's been a while so a quick update. I got back from the French Frolic / European trip of a lifetime and basically stuck the gar in my dad's garage and haven't even been across to look at it since. I definitely made up for lost time his year and have really enjoyed driving the car but I'd had my fill! So now I'm turning my thoughts to next year. As some will know I'm buying Lee's lovely fully forged engine as he's embarking upon a crazy 2.4 monster harrop build and my engine has smoked excessively through the breather since it was installed. That's the luck of the draw with buying second hand engines I guess. I'm keeping the M62 charger so if I end up with around 300 useable horses that will be awesome. I may even play around with meth in the water injection as I won't be at risk of blowing my engine up. Big maybe that though. I will also be asking Vocky to make one good engine from my current two Z22SEs. This will have a balancer delete and Falcon Steel rods and will be going for around £1200 if anyone is interested at this stage. Also need to seriously look at the soft top as it now balloons up and loses contact with the window surround when travelling above 40mph! I really hope it's fixable as new ones are horrendously expensive. Anyone know of reputable repair companies? I'll get a geo done when it's all back up and running. Plans include another lap of Scotland with my fiancé, the national, Spa and ideally one more euro track day but not sure what I can get away with after buggering off for the entire summer this year :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Roof ballooning is likely the front cable is either not tight enough or broken. Tried driving mine with a broken cable while waiting for a replacement and the same happened. will also happen if the soft top isn't seated in the roof seal properly.

Cheers Tom, I really hope it's just the cable. Not been to look at it properly yet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Well this is the first time I've missed the plastic sh*t box since the trip. Not touched it in 3 months but I'm really getting the itch now. List of jobs is mounting up: Lee to fit his forged engine for me. Map properly with the WI and experiment with water meth mixture. Vocky to make one good engine from my two slightly knackered ones. Sell this engine. Sort soft top. Sort / replace heater. Check over toe links etc. Had full suspension refresh 2yrs ago so hopefully all is good but I'm considering getting the spitfire kit for peace of mind. Doubtless there'll be loads more little things when I eventually go and look over it properly. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Have you tested if there's demand for a rebuilt engine?

My concern would be that you'll drop a lot of money on parts to build a upgraded engine only to find that it only worth the sum of it's parts (or less). Keep in mind that once you start looking at custom engine territory there are a lot of variables that are dependant on the application; compression ratio, cam profile and lift being the main two. You could end up spending lots of money to fit pistons and cams that people don't want for their application and won't pay for.

It is a slight concern. Although the engine will be near standard with the addition of Eagle steel rods and a balancer delete so should open the market up to most people who want a replacement engine. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Went to look at my car today. Battery is unbelievably still carrying charge despite being dumped since early September. I have however ordered a CTEK charger / conditioner today to keep it in good condition. Soft top is fine - the cable had worked itself undone. Which is great news given the price of new / second hand ones. Hoping to get Lee's engine fitted late Feb. Can't come soon enough. In the meantime I've booked the national, will be booking Spa in July I think, and have credit at Rockingham from last year's national. Might be able to get away with one more track day, cos in more bigger news I've booked a date for the wedding - 8 September! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What are you doing about your exhaust system and pulley size on the new engine? Or will you be sticking at a safe stage 2 build? P.S congrats on spending the most amount of money on one day. (I mean the wedding, not the car). ;)

Cheers Stuart, dunno what I've done to deserve her but I count my lucky stars every day. And I'm looking forward to the wedding as well :) I'm currently running Larini decat with tubby back box. I'm not planning (nor can afford) to change it at the moment so I'm looking at this as a future proof investment. I'm thinking of trying a smaller pulley and If I can squeeze 280ish out of this set up I'll be well happy. Don't want silly power just a fecking reliable engine! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Cheers Malcolm. Are you coming to the national? Still hoping you may be able to help out with that engine transport but let me know if it's not possible and I'll sort freight. Think I've taken the p*ss for long enough leaving it at Jonny's :D Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Went across to hook up my new CTEK MXS 5.0 charger today. Thought I'd try starting it up while I was there and was astonished that it fired up first time and went into a nice idle. Not bad for not being touched since early September!

While I was there I noticed a damp patch under the rear O/S brake calliper and remembered that I drove round Europe with a leaking calliper nipple. I'm sure I have a spare somewhere.

So jobs are - engine replacement, calliper nipple, fix heater, and if I can be arsed replace the fan and that also gave up when we got to France.

And probably loads of other things I've forgotten / haven't been aware of.

So I couldn't persuade Lee to fit that monster charger but he has fitted his fully forged engine into my car :)

It was all good on the long drive home and I'm really looking forward to mapping it. May experiment with a smaller pulley and water meth now I know I'm not gonna break the engine.

Lee was brilliant. Very hospitable and clearly know these cars inside out. He spotted a couple of things that were missing / broken / unattached and sorted them as he went. Thanks again mate and good luck with your monster engine build, that thing is gonna be mental.
