Well, I haven't managed to complete the mapping process because of yet more electrical problems meaning the car wouldn't start. At first I thought it was a relay (the fuel pump wasn't priming) but swapping that out didn't fix it so got professional help from a Vauxhall ECU specialist (and auto electrician). This time it was eventually traced to a faulty earth that had somehow affected the immobiliser and has resulted in him fitting a new ECU. He managed to get it started with old ECU but when he pressed the accelerator it stalled. Fitting the new ECU resulted in it starting and not stalling. He swapped it back to the old one and it reverted back to the same problem. Weird.

Of course this means I can't drive the car as the replacement ECU doesn't have the Dutch software on it. So both ECUs have been posted to Peter to see what (if anything) was wrong with the old one and if necessary to upload the software onto the new ECU. Really gutted cos the weather this weekend has been glorious.

Told you to check the earth! Bugger you have some bad luck don't you. I know it's of no comfort to you but I had two cracking drives out over the weekend. The moors are awesome (apart from the sheep)

I know you did but I had that earth replaced 12 months ago and it was perfectly attached. Some oxidisation had apparently occurred so a quick sand sorted it but it seems to have done some damage.

Yes, I have sh*t luck with this car. And that's putting it mildly.

Glad you enjoyed the moors. We are lucky to have them on our doorstep. When it's working again we shall have to go for a blast!

So the ECUs are on there way back. Peter says the data in the security sector looks to be damaged, something he's never seen before. He thinks the ECU itself might be fubarred. So he's uploaded OBDtuner to the new ECU and fingers crossed that will work and I can drive the bloody thing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

by security sector , I read this as the key data for the immobiliser which is stored on a second chip from the dutch software

In for a front end tidy up and a few other bits and pieces at a new body shop 200 yards from my front door. Great reputation so hoping for a good job. There were an incredible amount of stone chips.

Also, the car is sometimes failing to start again. The engine management light clicks and flashes twice when the starter button is pressed and the fuel pump doesn't prime. Error code was about the immobiliser chip not being present. But I've never had the immobiliser chip in the key. If I take out all the relays and fuses from the bundle in the boot it usually cures the problem. I'm so sick of it. The earth connection in the battery compartment looks fine and this is what the ECU specialist said fried my last ECU. Any ideas? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

How new is the battery? And what's the voltage across it?

Battery is 2yrs old. Haven't checked voltage. It's been conditioned with CTEK the whole time it was garaged over winter. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I had a lot of starting problems last year, ended in it not starting at all. Changed the battery, changed the relays, cleaned up the grounds. In the end I changed the starter motor, started right up after that.

Did you get any error codes or the EML flashing when you tried to start? Was the fuel pump priming? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

No codes, the pump was priming but it would just click when pressing the start button. I suspect that means the starter motor actually failed rather than the solenoid. Given that it's 16 years old i can't complain.

That does sound different to my issue. Pump doesn't prime although it is an intermittent fault and only seems to happen when it's been left overnight Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
