How old is the pump Neil Is it worth trying to swap out the pump for a other or even having your pump tested ? The other thing you could try is when the pump dosent prime test to see if you have the voltage at the pump plug This way you will no if it's pump or external from pump

The pump is a Spitfire fuel pump that is less than 2 years old so I would really hope it's not that :( I'll get someone with a volt meter to check it out cheers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'd be more inclined to say it's the relay.

i do agree it could be the relay

but thought this would be a easier test to confirm if the voltage is getting to the pump

if Neil was going to test it himself

but if he is going to get someone who knows there way around relays and electrics then it might be worth going straight to the relay

i actually still think its a poor earth or connection or it could even be the battery is breaking down under load (ignition)

How much load does the battery experience once the alternator is working?

If this is just preventing starting, then i'd agree that it might be dodgy connections between the battery and ground, however i'd also look at the exciter going to the starter motor. This is a very small wire and could easily corrode or become damaged.

you will probably find lambda and fuel pump CC pump so probably adds up

ive also known a starter motor to cause all kinds of issues acid might also have his water injection pump

Unfortunately for you every single sensor light switch etc has a Earth ( but really it's a negative rather than Earth ) But I understand you

there is also a negative cable between the gearbox and chassis, which can also cause poor starting

Gutted to not be travelling to Pembrey for the National today but I had to see my slot due to ongoing issues. Hope to see you all next year!

Steve (Crabash) helped me with the problem rear calliper today. Thankfully it appeared to be sticking sliders caused by the rubber seals perishing. Steve dismantled it, re-greased the sliders and put back together and it seems to have temporarily cured to problem. A caliper refurb kit is on order.

Steve confirmed what I feared with regards to the play in the front right wheel - I need a new rack. I am skint and have Spa at the end of the month so not sure what I'm going to do as I can't face missing that as well as the National.

The electrical gremlins on start up have stopped since I removed the bluetooth dongle from the port under the dash. Fingers crossed that's all it was.

I realise these updates are not particularly thrilling and that anyone with a modicum of mechanical know how will be shouting at the screen by now. I know an awful lot more than I did when I bought the car but I'm reliant on others expertise more often than not. This is more of a log of what issues I've experienced so I can trouble shoot in the future.

If it's cup wear, rather than tooth wear on the rack (which sounds like it is given you're seeing play on one side). You can purchase replacement bronze cups for the rack providing you have a titan rack.

From memory the work involves drilling out a locking pin, swapping them and fitting a new locking pin.
