We hope to pick your brains with your experience of the Dutch ECU too by the way Chris ;)

Help where I can Have you thought about triggering a relay for the water injection to start working From Tmap

Didn't someone (you Chris?) say that Peter was working on incorporating WMI into the software as so many on the continent are now adopting this strategy?

EDIT - just checked my emails and in fact I asked Peter directly about my intake temps at Blyton and sent him the log. He agreed that water injection definitely improves things. He has been running it on his own car for some time now.

He also said that he would advise against water / meth mixture for now and go with water only while we tune it. Apparently most systems are not precise enough to keep the mixture consistent which makes it tricky to tune. I have gone for Aquamist though as these are widely regarded as the best systems available. Not cheap though.

As Crabash says, we have a lot of experimenting to do and will be sharing the results with you all so you can make an educated call on whether it's worth it or not.

Was thinking of doing something like that for the road as the car will rarely if ever be driven hard enough on the road to need a lot of water. But maybe an overide for the track to turn it on full time. As always it will not be that simple though lol.

P.S. It's an Aquamist control via fuel flow and manifold pressure so a little more control than most systems. That does also mean harder to set up though.

MAP triggering alone is next to useless with a roots charger that produces near constant boost. The soon as the bypass closes it effectively produces the same boost until you lift off, so it'll basically be injecting whenever the supercharger is working and not when it's actually needed and drinking whatever juice you're injecting. It'll be interesting to see how it works when combined with fuelling (is that injector duty cycle or something)?

It taps into the inj wires so guessing it's from the inj pulse, there are several ways to control with the Aquamist box. you can use combinations or single inputs to create a progressive map. It's well known to be harder and more time consuming to set up but worth it for the extra control you get. Most boost control systems seem to suffer from over or under injection at some point in the rev range/boost pressure.

I have researched as much as I feel I can and now only playing with a system will increase my knowledge I feel, hence when Neil was interested in trying it I offered to help. He was going to get it fitted locally but after inquiring I didn't feel they would do a good job. Wanted to fit a big jet straight after the rotors, which I thought would not use the mist to best effect, basicly just soaking the laminovas in water and turning the mist into drops. Also it's considered bad practice to do so as the mist does a far better job of lowering temps than an intercooler, so you cool the charge only to possibly add heat again at the intercooler.

I am seriously considering using WMI on the VAG engine too as they respond very well to it, would expect to see a conservative 30whp once timing is dialed in to take advantage of it, plus less heat of course.

Oh and the pre rotor jet should increase roto efficiency although not sure we need it as we are not hunting power. So will install but with a shut off vale so we can experiment and see if it's worth it, or perhaps only turn on at the track.

That was how i wanted to do mine.

One of the dutch guys was using boost number to trigger, but that gave flaky results to say the least. (sort of full on or off result)

So my bet is on injector cycle.

Yeah my understanding is more so with a roots type but also to some extent on centrifugal types, boost control does work but in a kind of sledge hammer way, leading to probs with getting the AFR correct as the meth changes it in a way that does not tally with engine load and boost. Therefore basing it at least partially on fuel going through injectors should give much better AFR control.

Which reminds me Neil, I think we would benefit from having a wideband hooked up to the ECU.

When I spoke to Peter at Zandvoort last year he was playing around with WMI with his setup (Rotex SC) but wanted to make sure he had a way of protecting the engine when the water ran out, like changing to a second map. Also talk of V3 was that it would be no different to the current V2 in terms of mapping, but allow more control of changing built in fail safes and other ECU "Tuning" parameters.

How long do you plan it would last on a track day?

I'm hoping all day but realistically I will just have to suck it and see. No problem topping up in between sessions.
