I've added musical airhorns to my NA and they are superb (no really).. but...

 

I'm having problems wiring in the switch. I have wired exactly as shown in the diagram however regardless of which way I attach the wires to the horn switch and whatever position the switch is in the horns are on permanantly as soon as the connection is made between the battery and terminal 30/86 from the relay. 

 

The connection is to a new switch by the way not the existing horn as I know that is illegal.

I've double checked all the connections and everything looks okay.

 

Any ideas? (Binning/wearing the horns etc answers are not required :dry: )

The stereo earth might not be the same as the common earth as you'll get a lot of interference with the stereo if that's the case. I would move the horn switch earth to a different location. The earth for the airbag controller is one option.

The stereo earth might not be the same as the common earth as you'll get a lot of interference with the stereo if that's the case. I would move the horn switch earth to a different location. The earth for the airbag controller is one option.

I am trying to avoid taking the dash off. Is this easily accessible?

I'd extend the ground and use an accessible grounding point to confirm that's the issue before trying to ground it on anything under the dash if you're avoiding taking it off.

I'll ground it somewhere else and test but is it possible the relay is fcuked?

just be sure you have the pin numbers right :lol:

 

I did some repairs to a wiring harness on a car were the owner wondered why he needed two relays to stop the fuel pump.... I pulled the first one out of the relay holder to find that it didnt stop the pump :lol:

Your way of wiring makes the relay a bit obsolete...

Can't see the numbers but in my days of chav I ran a live direct from the battery to say the bottom terminal live to the compressor from top Then my switch was always an ignition controlled live to the relay which was earthed the other side This shouldn't really make any difference to your method but worth a try Have you tested the relay with a multimeter sounds like it could be stuck and you have a permanent connection between top and bottom connections also don't alwaysctrust the Chinese wiring diagram does the relay have a picture on of which terminals do what I have found in the past that the printed drawing dosent match the relay connections

It seems my wiring would have been fine if using a grounded horn. As I'm not all that happened was the bridge between 30 and 85 meant the relay was burnt out and therefore of no use. I now have a correct wiring diagram but need to find an ignition live somewhere within the cabin. I'm trying to avoid taking off the dash. Any ideas? Thanks

Bound to be an ignition live in the steering colum run the cable back through the bog grommet under the wiper motor No need to remove dash top just have to be able to stand on Ya head and have someone ready to pull you out my the feet when you get stuck 😀

just take the dash off, it's only three screws.

I looked at the relay PIN numbers and there is no way the relay should burn out because of the bridgr(you need it)... Unless it was a sh*t relay
