much interest from europe with the exchange rate in their favour?
Not as much as you would think. We have a couple heading for Italy at the moment but given the exchange rate is nearing credit crunch levels there's no stampede.

VXRs seem really over priced to me. Will they be worth even more in the future with so few people knowing about them? Most people think my car is a VXR as they think that's the actual name of the VX220; I stopped correcting then a while ago. Is that 20k or 23k?
I think buyers that need to know about the VXR know. Funnily enough if we have people come to look at a Lotus or Porsche or whatever and we have a VXR parked up they can almost always identify it and know it was a production run of 65 so in it's own way its well known. It's madness that I have one for 20k but I have bills to pay and can't really sit on it. Like a lot of the limited run Lotus cars there are nowhere near as many people buying as we have been used to over the last few years and prices have softened. I have even noticed a few S1 Elise Sport 160s hanging about when we have had them in and sold them instantly because people were in that mood to invest in cars more than they are now.
Right at the moment it would appear that people are wanting cash in the bank more than cash in a car. It's a superb time to be a buyer as this current brexit mess will likely abate next year and you are buying something that's guaranteed to go up in price as confidence returns.

Whats the current thinking on values? I put mine up for sale last summer, clearly misjudged the market and didn't sell. Going to re-list in the usual places soon but price needs to be realistic, so seeking advice.

Thanks

I put mine up for £14,000 which is the silver ITB car in the for sale section of this forum and got two people interested but I decided not to sell.

I nearly bought a ropey Ribiata one for £6k in 2014.

With events moving rapidly, and all likelihood a dead market for the foreseeable, Im offering the VX for 11k should anyone be interested. Absolute bargain, or foolhardy considering circumstances only time will tell. I bought this in 2009 when things weren’t great and have enjoyed for over ten years.
Clearly there are more important matters at hand right now than VX’ing, and keeping it in the garage for another period is low down the hardship scale. Keep safe all!

If anyone is looking at selling I'm taking cars in on commission sale currently. Immediately before this crapstorm I actually sold about 6 cars so with deliveries finishing on those next week I actually have a half empty unit to fill.

In two minds as to whether to attempt to let my brother try and sell my high mileage, needing a bit of love, UK car that is sitting unloved on the mother's drive or attempt to bring it here to NZ.
I've been offered a Yellow NA for $25,000 (12,000 GBP) that looks very nice and would save the ball ache of trying to get mine through compliance.
Alternatively there is a Turbo for sale for a strong 20,000 GBP.

It does look pretty mint at only 26,000 miles though.

Ive already been taking bits off it during the middle of the night, theres not much left under the tarpaulin if they bothered to look.
I'll have the rest of it for spares, give me a price, and I,ll take it off your hands, only 4 miles away.

Around 4k miles a year is now classed as high mileage? What's the point of buying these cars if people are too scared about depreciation to actually drive them? Bonkers.
If people want an "investment" then buy shares, gold, etc.

This. Mine ticked over 130k this week is a complete princess in terms of getting whatever it needs, however I am under no illusion it is going to ever 'pay me back'. It owes me nothing and is there to be enjoyed.

It's not just VXs, the UK is such a fickle mileage driven market. On the continent where driving a 500 mile round trip is considered a normal drive out they are much less concerned. Here though you get an almost rabid need from buyers for low miles (even though having seen my VX sit stationary for 10 weeks and then deal with the negative effects of this shows low miles is not always a good thing!) and on the other end of the scale 99% of buyers in this country think that as soon as a car hits 100k miles some sort of inbuilt bomb starts ticking that could go off at any point. Its fine at 95k miles but wont go near one with 100k on it...
Miles is only important for sell on purposes, it does allow a premium and does tend to prevent depreciation - however a poorly maintained low mileage car will cost you an arm and a leg in ownership costs vs a higher mileage one which is properly sorted and maintained. For me I go for the sweet spot in between, and do the jobs that need doing.
