well I have definitely had better weekends... .so come into the garage and find loti has emptied all of its coolant onto the floor
a lot of coolant was found in the battery/heater well. So removed the heater and found the heater rad had been leaking for a very long time.
So I left the heater out for now and filled it back up with coolant.... Coolant was still coming out fast.
In the end it turned out to be the coolant pipe that is inside the chassis that goes front to back!! Apparently this can happen on pre 1999 cars (mine is 97) where the metal pipe can hit/rub a chassis rivet which can cause a leak. (after 1999 lotus moved the rivet )
So after much effort, time and money I ended up using both the heater pipes to run the radiator return pipe. This will do for the national until a better long term solution can be had as to change the pipe inside the chassis you have to remove the crashbox so will change it once I bin it or get bored and decide to take the front end all apart

Bit of a tough repair with that alloy tube only removable from the front and the crashbox blocking it.
Not sure if you can (and are willing to) drill a strategically placed hole in the crashbox to let that tube pass...
Or simply take that tube out in sections and replace by 2 mtrs of straight coolant hose. (or pass a lightly thinner hose through that tube? )

I think the way its done is to cut the end of the pipe into little pieces as you go.
EDIT like exmanta said

I’m hoping it will be fine now until after the house move then I can chop the old pipe out in sections and feed a new hose in
