Hi all, I am fairly new to the site and just upgraded the radiator and added two Kenlow cooling fans, dropped the old wiring through a relay and have separately fused it, literally just bled the system of air and all ok. Just watched the temperature goto 103 and still fans not cut in so just switched it off and headed for help!! does anyone know what temperature they are supposed to work at or has my thermal switch stopped working. Thanks all Ric

Fans on the OEM cars come on at 108 if I recall correctly.

Possible to change this parameter with the Dutch ECU to something more reasonable.

Hi nightrider,

Good guide on here somewhere on how to fit a fan overide by earthing one of the cables that passes down the centre console. Useful when stuck in traffic on hot days to keep the temp down and ease your paranoia of a cooked engine.

Thanks for the information guys, I was thinking of adding an override switch for just that reason, don't suppose you know the coloured cables I need to put a switch across.

Can't tell you but do a search you can just take it from one of the relays in the front and earth it via a switch

I have since removed the centre console pulled the tape of the cable loom and traced the small blue cable with a grey stripe, if you cut a small section of the insulation off and solder a cable to it you can easily put this to ground on one of the gearstick location bolts, I have mounted a small rocker switch just back from the gear lever, works just great if you get stuck in traffic on a hot day.

I'm pretty sure mine used to cut in at 106c when standard.

... and 106 shouldn't hurt it, should it? Mine will hit that on a hot day in traffic - the fans kick in and turn off again at 99 (I think). I certainly don't worry about it.

Absolutely. I twitched a little the first few times the temp hit 106, but there are never any issues. It's no K series is it?

I hit 110 today in traffic for first time ever. I DID NOT hear a fan kick in.... time to investigate me thinks!?

Are the fans on a fused supply?

130 degree C is pretty hot Bargi, you should consider the fan override switch (easy mod) so you can pre-emptivly switch it on.

130 was a one off. The plug had burnt out and fans failed.
