My VX is currently wrapped up, but will be coming out of hibernation soon, and will revert back to being a daily driver again. Before I do that, I want to tidy it up a bit.

 

My drivers side sill is looking quite tatty - plenty of scratches and a big split along the fold. I've seen the leather covers that are available on eBay, but would like some feedback before buying any. I found this thread talking about them, but apart from pictures (with now broken links), there is no mention of how they hold up in use. Has anyone got / had these, and if so, how quickly do they wear? How did you fit them? Did the leather stay in place or did it move around in use?

 

Anyone able to offer feedback?

I can't comment, I probably only drove around 1000 miles with them attached before the engine let go. They take a bit of effort to fit correctly, but if you go this route I would also suggest using a layer of neoprene under the leather, this makes it much more comfortable to rest your knee against.

Do a search for Buchos thread, he's done most of the inside of his car (including the sills) with the topgaiters stuff.

 

Lotus regularly cover the sills with leather in their elise based cars, so it must be relatively hard wearing

I would advise them, they still smell lovely in my vxt.

 

Still look brand new

How did you stick them in place? Not sure what's the best glue to use.

Much nicer to rest your arm on than plastic and lifts the interior imho. Havn't had any wear issues yet climbing in and out.... and the other half likes the interior much better too.

I have the blue stitch ones and they still look the same as when I fitted them. Use spray glue to stretch them over the protectors.

I have all the leather sections made for the vx, all mine black stitch, I got the cills, dash, column surround, stack, hand brake and centre consul all in the leather trim. It looks great and the smell of leather when you get in is a plus as well.

I used the spray glue from B&Q as it seemed to give you a little more time to stretch the leather better before going off.

What way did the stitching around the starter button sit? It's the only thing I don't like about mine as it's not quite round.

I'm sure Ollie2007 will be along to explain this better than me, but..... He was sent a leather dash and the starter button hole was a few millimetres to one side, he sent it back and got a replacement. If he'd have fitted it, it would look a bit stretched and odd. When I saw this compared to the replacement you could see it wouldn't have looked right. Sounds like you might have fitted a dodgy one?
