I might buy an s2 cover and butcher it to fit.

Make sure it's a cover off of a Toyota powered Elise and not a Rover one.

The Rover powered Elise one has a more low-profile gear lever construction with all the cables attached at the bottom and won't fit over the VX 'high mount' cable style lever and also the handbrake lever is mounted a little differently.

Toyota version should have a good chance to fit over the gear mechanism in the VX though. May need some adjustment/tweaks but it should be fairly similarly sized.

Bye, Arno.

As all of my pics have fallen foul of the photobucket issue I'll have to repost some of the useful ones. Boo!

Meantime, hello Flickr!

Thanks Chris, I couldn't hear the radio anymore so figured I'd ditch it and put a tray in, then started thinking about how I'd like some USB charging points up front for the sat nav, one thing led to another and this was the result. If you want one I have another 3 long enough to do both sides of the dash ;)

What wheels are those Pete? Also a fan of that simplistic dash.

Hi, they are Lotus wheels from the Exige 260 cup. Saves 18kg from stock.

Thanks Danny, your pics definitely helped. Measure ten times cut once was my motto. Got a spare boot incoming so I'll be doing the same at the back soon. It seems much more secure then the OEM latch.

Latched it using two bits of carbon through the alarm "bonnet open" switch hole. There's a piece underneath inside the folded metal so it can't move around. Fits sweet.

I think you might find the trailing corners of the bonnet will still flap like mad (which I used to find a distraction). I have a latch at each corner and even with that I've still had problems. I had to re-brace the front bracket on mine too, as the whole bonnet starts to lift off the rads at high speeds.

Spring soon, might be able to meet up for some Welsh runs soon. :)

It's better now than it was with the old catch. They used to bobble up and down on the corner stands because the catch was a few mm too high but this puts a bit more tension in the panel so it's pulled down more so far so good but it'll probably loosen over time so I'll keep an eye on it.

Started working on the rear catch, bit trickier because you need to cut away some of the bracing box sections around the pin to get the catch plate inside. Might rebrace it when I'm done and have had the panel painted.

Hopefully no more boot cable issues!

Maybe later but no plans at the moment. My mate has fitted some pitking pop catches on his Elise boot but they are a little fiddly to line up. I prefer the idea of screwing tails to the panel which would slide in to the slots where the hinges go. So you could lift it up slightly then remove.

Not much to update lately, the winter coupled crap weather with working away a lot.

Need to get an ITG I've had in the garage for ages fitted to see if it helps my chances at the National.

Also a new daily has arrived to steal some attention. It's got a core harshness in ride etc but feels much more grown up than the VX. If Bedford is a definite fail I might take it to the national.

In the honeymoon period right now but odds on the VX will be with me long after the Porsche...

The front was quite easy but the rear was much more complicated because of the bracing.

Make sure ya u use a hand file for fibreglass to smooth out the cuts without splintering the paint so the finish goes from the picture of the red boot to the blue front. If you use normal tools you might constantly chip the finish.

Once done, I also painted the exposed lips with a clearcoat touch upto stop it splaying or water getting in.
