You don't want them splaying too much!

Thanks. Painting the edges is a good idea.
Can you change the fuel pump from that opening in the picture above?

Br, Per

Make sure ya u use a hand file for fibreglass to smooth out the cuts without splintering the paint so the finish goes from the picture of the red boot to the blue front. If you use normal tools you might constantly chip the finish.

Once done, I also painted the exposed lips with a clearcoat touch upto stop it splaying or water getting in.

Yes, Vocky swapped it for me using a basic version of that opening, I just rounded it off to stop stress fractures and fitted the rivet cover for strength.

New wheels have arrived, thanks to the Earl. Can't wait to get them on the car.

Not for a while. Think I was the guest or second but there's probably about 5-6 cars with it done.

Huge weight savings.

The forged wheels weigh a lot less than the OEM or even TDs.

A set saves over 18kg of unsprung mass compared to turbo wheels.

Several sources and it adds up to a decent saving:

  • 4 bolt hubs are lighter (smaller and thinner mounting flange)
  • 4 bolt Elise brake discs are lighter compared to standard Speedster/SAAB/Opel/Vauxhall discs (similar weight to the very rare optional VX/Speedster turbo drilled discs)
  • Forged lightweight 4-bolt Elise wheels from Toyota-elises/exiges come up for sale fairly regularly

You can reach a pretty similar weight saving with custom parts while keeping the 5x110 hubs (eg. alu belled discs, custom forged wheels), but if you want to keep to mostly 'factory'/standard (in this case Elise) parts then it can be a good path to take.

Bye, Arno.

Another recap update which is very much overdue.

The shitter spent half of 2020 in Leeds with Type116 getting a colossal overhaul.

Overall it had:

Clutch
TTV Flywheel
4.17 box
Nitron wishbone kit
Suspension clean, dip and passivate
Engine/box mounts
Pro Alloy larger fuel tank
RS14’s
Spitfire fuel pump
Tullett cat and backbox (my ears are grateful)
Chassis shims
Duralac
Custom steering wheel spacer
TR1 tyres on my road/wet alloys
Lots and lots of niggle work from previous work

Car probably needs a geo but I’ve been unable to really drive it since it came back. Initial impressions are it’s much quieter thankfully. It’s not night and day but the combination of clutch, fly, box and some small weight savings make the car feel like it’s chasing the redline better, and the car handles road imperfections much better as I suspect the original wishbone inserts were acting as additional damping!

Just need to get it on track to see what’s what.

After 9 years the car is moving to the south east with a new owner who is a real enthusiast.

It’s been a fantastic servant and given me countless good memories and a new circle of mates from the forum, but it’s time to move on.
