Been reading the thread about AC and PCars.

 

Got me wondering about getting a gaming PC. Being lazy and CBA at the moment to investigate it all myself, any initial pointers to a recommended off the shelve desktop system that will run AC and PCars etc etc well?

I got my pic from chillblast.Com - they offer lots of gaming options at prices that were cheaper than a home build and have good after sales support.

Just the pc itself budget about 500/700£. Add in a wheel, monitor (or tv) speakers (or headset) etc etc and your talking about a grand.. You can get it to run on a pc for cheaper.. But you said run well. Lol

Yeah been looking and it looks like roughly 450-500 notes for the PC..? Any opinion on this..

I have a spare TV I can use, a sound system currently not doing anything, a steering wheel/pedals/game seat that was used on PS3 for GT5/6 - and a spare room thats currently just full of junk needing clearing out..

I would stay away from amd/ati.. They cause no end of problems.. Expecially if you are thinking about going and getting pcars.. Stick with nvidia and intell, yes it will cost more but it will last longer withought having to upgrade and you wont get any driver problems like you do with ati. Just ask mark beszant, hes been a loyal ati fanboy until he tried a gtx970 ( i think, could be 980) and now he would never go back. Aim for about 3.5ghz - 4ghz and a gtx 680 or above. Stick with that and everything else just get what you want. I run a i7-920 and a gtx 680 with 6gb ram and its fine for ac but with pcars on ultra it doesnt run too well, needs dropping to high / medium. Just dont be a cheapskate and buy amd/ati, i know the price per performance looks great on the face of it but you will regret it after 12 months

Do you not have a half decent laptop? Assetto Corsa isn't particularly graphics intensive and you don't need a powerful machine to run it.

It runs just fine on my Surface Pro 3 across 3 screens, and that only has an i5 with onboard Intel [color=rgb(0,0,0);font-family:sans-serif;font-size:12.3199996948242px;background-color:rgb(249,249,249);]HD 4400 chip.[/color]

I've only recently set it up and I haven't used it an anger yet, but I've not come across any problems so far.

 

Anyway, what I'm getting at is if you're going to buy AC and you have a decent laptop, before blowing a chunk of money on a new standalone, install it on your laptop, hook it up to a monitor and first and see if it runs smoothly. You might save yourself some pennies.

Yep see your point.. Don't have a laptop.. iMac only.

They're both Intel/NVidia GTX 750. Second is £60 more and 4.2GHz i5, vs 3.6GHz i3. However, first has more video Ram (2GB vs second has 1GB).

 

I realise one can probably change specs etc. General question.. Is 2GB video ram necessary?

Dont forget if you buy the Intel K series you can overclock Got my i7 2600K 3.4Ghz clocked at 4.2GHz saves on buying the more expensive versions

ideally you want 4gb Vram now.. 2GB is a little on the low side.. mine is 2gb and it does struggle running some games maxed out. dont even think about 1gb. 

 

but dont just look at that, look at the speed of the GPU aswell.. anything over 1100mhz is good.

The one thing that I wish I'd specced on our machine is an SSD. I'm no expert in gaming computers though so no idea if it's needed for that use. PS. Ours was overclocked by chillblast and I've had no problems at all.
